More than a poll this is kind of a survey i'm doing to find out the listening preferences of members here when it comes to music player applications.

I've been using Winamp since the first day i got my computer..tht was back in 1999...:P Since then, it has been my ever faithful music player of choice for its sheer user friendliness, configurability and plugin support...and though i dont use it for playing video, it has got tht capability too for the last few years..i really dont care about skins as i keep it minimized, but tht feature is gr8 for some ppl.. so, the point is...its almost like second nature now...but of late, i've seen too many foobar converts on other forums and on TE as well...

So i finally gave into the temptation and downloaded it too..after trying it out for sometime..i'm thinking..wots so gr8 about it?? :S I mean, i had some trouble getting used to the interface first as i cudnt find the volume control..so when i played a song on it, the blaring sound almost had me jump out of my seat...

It was after some tinkering i found it out down thr on the right corner of taskbar..Now is it the most user friendly place to place it??

The rest too seemed spartan to me..

Also, i cudnt find a way to move a searched file after the current song playing(n not jump to it directly) like i cud do on Winamp...is thr a way to do tht on foo?? Pls enlighten me...

I may be ignorant..so, i ask all u foobar fans to pls tell me what makes it a better player than Winamp?? I honestly dont know..just wanted ur feedback...:P

qcd is

a) faster (time to startup)

b) lighter(less RAM)

c) more featured( the full version is free and it can do anything winamp can)

d) no extra bloat

e)95% of all popular winamp plugins and skins are available for it

f)shibatch eq

why foobar?

a) something that just plays the music, period. nothing fancy, but does the job best

b) sound quality beaten by nothing else

c)immensely tweakable (audiophile/power user weakness)

Media Players - User Reviews and Votes - FoxyTunes might satify your curiosity

i use rhythmbox in linux :)

^But going by tht list isnt Winamp the obvious choice?? ;)

Btw, all this while since i posted this thread, i played around with the foobar n with some help from google n plugins like column ui, albumart etc, was able to make it look like this..:P

Atleast it looks a bit better now...have to agree on the customizing factor though...its highly configurable..but still, i need to dig in deeper to find out what makes it a better player than winamp..:P

Btw, i still am not able to find a way to add a searched song below the one tht is already playing...

Foobar cause of appearance tweakability, custom resampling options, great database search, tons of very functional plugins!

And yeah, no fancy GUI to slow down other apps :P

check task manager . 2 mb memeory usage

no cpu usage ( without shit piled on to it , that is ...)

still asking me why ???

winamp with the MAD mp3 plugin gives better audio output, so i'm sticking to it.

havent got used to Foobar yet - got lost in trying to figure out how to customize it to my needs :bleh:

its light on system resources, its highly configurable, easily manageable and music sounds a tad better on it.

was using foobar on XP.

Since on Vista 64bit. using good old WMP11 for music/rmvb and VLC for other media.

There is not much difference for average user when it comes to audio quality ( which i am when it comes to audio :P ) between tweaked out foobar and WMP to be honest.

I dont use library functions at all, i never did in my life. I organize my music properly on HDD itself and its faster for me to find my music manually ;)

And anyway, I prefer listening to music on my CD player with SR 80 plugged in :P

^Well thts what i've been thinking..sound output can be improved drastically on default winamp using the inbuilt equalizer and plugins like enhancer, compwide etc. Infact i'd tweaked out the sound of my winamp so much tht i found it sounding better than the foobar with just the equalizers tweaked to my liking.. so i think, sound output is a subjective thing...it can be improved on any app using proper plugins..

But yeah, have to agree about the memory footprint n cpu usage...thts whr foobar is better...as for the interface, its usually running in the background most of the times, so it doesnt matter whether it looks good or not..:P

Neways, i'm still playing around with foobar..:P But ne1 has any idea about how i can achieve tht 'move after current' in foobar without skipping the playing song...

Winamp + it's latest DFX plugin

tried this Vs foobar ..

both sounded same so... (not an audiophile :P )

Ahh absolutely, good old CD bliss! Which CD player?

Consider adding a headphone amp if its a discman or something, will drastically improve the sound stage :D
