Storage Solutions Which one to buy? Seagate or WD?

I was planning to buy an external HDD this weekend. So I would like to know which one will be better? I am looking for a 500 GB drive.

1. Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB with 5 years warranty or
2. WD Passport, 500GB with 3 years warranty
Please advise.
 
Between those 2 options, go for - Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB with 5 years warranty (reasons - service, quality, availability, etc)
Price is Rs. 3,600 incl. tax.

But look at this interesting possibility. Iomega and Buffalo are going to make ALL USB drives they sell, go from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 at no price difference.
Today USB 3.0 does not mean anything to me unless I have a MoBo supporting it. But over the course of that 3yr or 5yr warranty, the gigantic speed difference between a USB 2.0 and 3.0 drive will surely become more obvious.

Does it come with a 5 year warranty? I thought all the hard drives sold ATM have a 3 year warranty.

Could you please verify the warranty through Seagate's portal?

The freeagent Go portable external HDD and the Freeagent Desk series comes with 3 years warranty. Warranty for Go Flex series is 3 years.

Congrats, though I can't help thinking you could have got it for a bit less, and that the higher price is still okay as long as you know the dealer and are certain that he can take care of warranty issues if any.

Thanks!.Actually the Seagate FreeAgent Go 500GB Poratable Drive was available for Rs.3700, but this one costs me 200 bucks more, because its a bit smaller than the former. Its the Ultra-Portable Edition. I dont know whether they charged me more or not, but it was cheaper compared to many other stores at my place(Cochin).

Does seagate provides international warranty? AFAIK with WD you can transfer the warranty to India..

I dont think Seagate is having international warranty. I purchased a drive from dxb, it went bad, and when I enquired with the Seagate Serive people, they said that I have to take it back to dxb itself to claim the warranty :-(

Did you actually check if the drive is under warranty by entering the serial number on their support page? Or did you end up blindly trusting their words?

my cousin had bought an internal drive from dubai.when i checked for drive it was covered under warranty...also i wasnt asked any q's during RMA...it was an internal IDE drive..
