Hi, m getting a 2Mbps night unltd connection :D

but need to share it with 3 of my friends !

One of them has a PC and rest of us have a laptop. So m planning for a Wi-Fi router.

Also we have a purely unltd connection (256Kbps) by spectra smart which gives us the service through LAN wire. So i need a router which can accept in input through the RJ45 plug from both, in daytime Spectra Smart, in Night from the LAN Output of router and distribute it to atleast 4-5 laptops by Wi-Fi and one or two PC by wires.

So plz advice me which one to get and how much will it cost approximately ?

if you can find Buffalo routers here, get the WHR-HP-G54 router... i got it for ard US$50... it comes with a high gain antenna and built-in power amp to give better range and signal quality... and most imptly, it can be flashed with open source firmware like DD-WRT, Tomato etc...

Naah, i dont actually need a dual WAN router. The cafe owner in my basement does have one (Dlink) so it must b avlbl in India but i think it will be an overkill for my resources. We can manage to plug in and plug out the wires of diffrent connection from the router ! :)

I need a cheap n good for avg home usage router with good warranty and my working environment is as mentioned in the first poat. Dual WAN wont hurt till its within the budget of arnd 2K !

They wont be within your budget :)

If you can change the cable by urself then why not you check the one posted above from market section.

Its a good potential router to play with. Do google with the model you can find loads of information on how to hack that linksys.

Thanks will look for it. :)

Bt it seems to b a bit overpriced and also its performance is not too great as compared to this Netgear WGR614's

Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G - wireless router Reviews. Routers Reviews by CNET.

NetGear WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router Reviews. Routers Reviews by CNET.

Also the netgear will cost smthng arnd 1900 to 1800 for a new one while this linksys is greater than 2.5K and the one in market section is abt 8 mnths old n for 2K !

So what's the better option ?

my sugg go for the cheapest possible as electronic gadgets are luck. If it last then it will be there with you long time, its same with almost any brand.

performance wise .. i dont find any problem using my D Link 714P+ b (early 2004) router. its slow for LAN .. so just plug to LAN port in router and settle it.

Browsing internet it doesnt make any difference if its g/b/a even the brand,

Its my view. I may be wrong.

I also recommend you get the Buffalo. You can install DD-WRT etc as burnz said and it will be much better.

I will be using it only for plain networking purposes so how will the customized firmwares help ? :ashamed:

If they'll really help me then i can go in for a buffalo !

And one more thing, will paying extra bucks for these flashable routers benefit in my mostly plain zane case ?

Although i would like to play with it but my other roomies will definitely be asking me a reason for spending those extra bucks

Buffalo WHR - G54S period.

Its for 2.1 to 2.2K and is the best Wifi router access point.

supports 3 best hacked firmwares and trust me on this its the best deal.
DDWRT - Tomato - OpenWRT all these 3rd party firmwares open gr8 possibilites for this wifi access point.

I really wont recommend Netgear (I hate them :@ ), I have a NetGear WGR614v5 that just went kaput for no apparent reason, (It was connected to a surge protector and UPS).... Damn IT! :@

Ahhh but my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 is on its way  :hap2:  kick Netgear outta here.
