Which wireless router?

Hello again,

I am trying to make up my mind in buying a good reliable wireless router for home usage. I am not sure of what brand i should go for. I had a Buffalo WG125 router which i think is bricked by my elite retardness :ashamed: . Please pour in your suggestions as i would need a router asap!. My budget is ~ 2k not much. The router should be friendly with gaming needs and of course range matters. I would be connecting my pc with a wired connection but need this router for my laptop. Vote in your opinions :)

^^ Oops! Sorry missed that part. Even then I'd say the G125 is still the best router for 2k. Just don't mess with the firmware and brick it this time

 i was watching that thread ever since i bricked it :ashamed: .. Its buffalo thats best ?? anything else.. cuz i already had it.. wanna try something different to brick err.. to use :ashamed:
What about linksys and netgear .. any issues with them ?

err.. tried to flash it to DDWRT and now i cant see the router light coming up.. reimaged my windows twice and still cant get network connectivity.. tried all the steps to recover but it died thereafter i guess..
But i can use the DDWRT interface and work on it .. but i just cant seem to get network connectivity :ashamed:

If u can ping to it, then its not dead yet. Try to revive it. Mine tomatoe'd WRT54G has been working for a year now without any issue. Try it again.

P.S: If all the LED remain on all the time, then its bricked for sure.

Well I have the WRT54G, and its working pretty decently, it has the same firmware that I bought it with a couple years back, not sure if the newer firmware or tomato will make a difference?

But coming back to your question you cant go wrong with the Buffalo or the LInksys, they are both A grade networking manuf.

hmm.. so narrowing down to buffalo and linksys now.. is it worthwhile to go for linksys ?.. i may not even flash it to any firmware. My basic work on wireless is to transfer files between my laptop and computer.. i need a good WLAN speed .. when i used buffalo.. no matter what i did .. the speed never went above 2 mbps.. is that normal?

you are getting speeds of 16Mbps. Wlan G has max speeds of 54Mbps.

which is slow, by any means you are using Windows Vista?

because i remember had a slow of slow LAN speeds with vista right from BETA 2 to RC2 version. it *must* have been fixed by now.

but don't know much, since i have dumped vista after the final version came out from MS

I ordered D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router via katmandude from amazon = Rs. 5830/-

Here in india i got a quote of Rs. 11,656 from Dlink India pune dealer :eek:hyeah:
