The title is very misleading. The OP has put the title as some new plan has come or as if Airtel removed the FUP.

This thread is not even qualified as a showoff as it works in only some cases.

This thread is qualified as a Showoff as it works in HIS CASE.

This is the perfect example that networks in India are perfectly capable of pushing such speeds in Mb/s.

yet ISPs for some reason cap our speeds in Kilobytes(same old 256kbps):@

Actually, it does work in most cases, in areas where the loophole is yet to be plugged. U can download from most filehosts like MU,RS,etc. using download managers at such speeds using the same technique. Infact, if i recall correctly, downloads from RS used to be the fastest as compared to other filehosts/torrents.

Absolutely right. Infact, word is that Alliance currently utilize a measely 3-4% of their network resources. Meghbela Broadband, a direct competitor with way inferior infrastructure, manages to dish out better plans (read double bandwidth for the same price) with an unconfirmed 60% resource usage. When confronted, Alliance would inevitably put the blame on Govt. regulations and inadequate infrastructure at their distribution partners'(cable operators) end. If a small time private ISP has so much resources at idle/being wasted, one wonders how much resources lies underutilized/wasted with the big players.

before any of the mods see it, you might want to blank out the names of the files in your torrent client...you might get an infraction.

Lol.....so much hoopla about the Alliance/24-Online client "loop-hole" still!!!!:bleh:

Its been like, what 5-6 years now that this exists and almost all Alliance users are aware of it by now i would guess.

Leaving apart the technicalities, until about 2 years back any Alliance user could get such speeds 24x7 even if he had a 64kbps plan worth 560 bucks. The simple trick is/was to start the download and then log-off/terminate the 24-online client, and voila...u have your 5-6mbps download speeds, though u could not browse while logged off. And this was over and above the frequent hours where you used to get such speeds by default while the ISP would be attending to technicalities on their distribution system...way better that the so called "down-times" i must admit.:D

However, this has no connection with the Broadband in India being at par with other countries, infact the situation is pretty bleak. Its just a one-off case where the ISP, who knows about this loophole for some 2 years now, has not plugged the same in few areas where its penetration is low just to attract customers. Rest assured, once Alliance has enough customers in your area your hay-days will be over. They know how to fix it and have already done so in about 60% of its coverage area in stages. So my advice to the OP ....... Make hay while the sun shines!

Ohh and BTW, just recalled, we used to call it "PIPE"
yeah used to use this method too :D .

Definition of broadband is the biggest loophole companies are exploiting. If TRAI wakes up & says enough is enough then immediately we can see results... TRAI had asked ISP's for a change but they cited that infrastructure is not available to sustain high speed in India & it will take another 5 years atleast. That's why 2014 is the set deadline.

Microsoft had intended that india should have minimum of 2Mbps to which it was replied that the cost in upgrading the whole infrastructure and providing it to customers will be huge and that then the customers will have to pay a lot more and both the company and customers will incur losses .But speeds like this show who actually incurs the losses . And the stupid FUP is one such they say aimed at providing good service to all :x where as in actuality it doesnt benefit any cause the non down loaders don't even use more than 20Gb max to max in a month :S . I have seen the load on the servers and most people use the cheapest pack available a speed really doesn't matter to them .

i download atleast 20 gb per day :P
i can download max 25gb per month after that due to fup i come down to 256kbps from 4mbps so i can say india does not have broadband its just a fraudband
