who the hell is that someone:@?

We had changed our server plan a month back and the host had set that limit when they transferred(most probably a default account limit with whm). No "Somebody" has the access to the server to set limits. We have enough bandwidth to last a 20mbps regular continuous monthly data transfer (on a 1gbps port).

Holy cow !!!!
Is that really needed ? This is India, and real usage wont even come close, I guess.

TE has sufficient bandwidth to cater to the traffic even if it increased more than 5 times. Unfortunately someone had set a limit at 300GB and it got exhausted in just 20 days. I have reset it as unlimited.
You seem to be completely aware of the kind of money it is bringing in. Just out of curiosity though, what is an unlimited bandwidth hosting solution? The ones you get for $10/month?
Sir, Renegade, with all due respect a simple calculation with the tools available on the internet, gives anyone a rough idea as to what a website is capable of earning. On an average we have 2 banner ads (neglecting the click ads) on most pages and given the fact that at any point of time we have more guests (who obviously come through search engines) in the forum than members, it can be safely assumed that they fumble through many threads searching for info. Most members come here not just for knowledge but also to help others and to keep a tab on whats happening on TE, thereby generating a lot of page views.

At this point I see that we have 755 users online. 157 members and 598 guests. Assuming each visitor clicks on an average 10 pages and an impression gives you a minimum of $10, it just takes 50/100 visitors to generate it !. Ads clicked will be your added bonus.

Well, frankly speaking there is nothing called unlimited at least in terms of hosting. Companies which advertise unlimited bandwidth are simply fooling customers with hidden charges. Like I said, $10 will not take one any far than the crippled blue host and dream host.

But now that you have made it clear that it was a technical blunder and not really a bandwidth washout, it is much more clear than what was previously wrongly assumed.:)

Boy, people sure have a funny/colourful ways of using such "exotic" words :P
Do you have anything sensible to say other than your gibberish fusion of abbreviations and poorly worded sarcasm.? :P

They took the pain to keep it up and running for years now, its only natural to want to make money out of anything you invest so much time in. They are however not obligated to spend all the money on the server. Updates when needed, minimal possible downtime and sufficient staff, I'd say they are doing great.

damn, I agree with you that they have kept it running for years now and I am not saying they need to invest all the money generated. But what can one assume when one of the best (popular) tech forums that this country has seen goes down with a message saying bandwidth exceeded, isn't it a general assumption? plus you see the message on screen. Anyway this explanation holds good only if Renegade had not made it clear.

All I tried to say was TE should never go down (other than scheduled maintenance), because I missed it and everyone else missed it. But I am glad its back ! :)

We acknowledge it was a lapse at our end. Nowhere have the admins said that we did not have the money to support the hardware or to pay our bills. I don't know from where you have got that idea.

As far as downtimes go, no one would want a downtime but they still happen. There are a number of things that cause it not limited to DDOS attacks, hardware failure, wrong system settings via automatic updates etc etc. We do our best to fix them as soon as we find a problem though. (eg last night)

In the case you mentioned, the BW limit was introduced by the host while moving the website and not by any of us. It did escape our attention to check on it though and that has been acknowledged. Somethings are learnt by experience.

Safin sir, why was TE's imagehost brought down?

I am having a hard time uploading images using the attachment window. It is asking for some login and password - not sure if it is a fault at my end. :ashamed:

:P What tools are you using. Since you seem to know so much about advertising and revenue generation, please let us know which ad program can we use to generate revenue at that rate. Also suggest some programs which can pay an Indian tech forum like us on an impression basis.

and an impression gives you a minimum of $10
 Come out, come out, come out from under that rock. Take a look around.
