hi people:)

I bought a vaio cpccw26fg VPCCW26FG : CW Series : VAIO Laptop & Computer : Sony India last evening.

I'm fairly happy with the machine EXCEPT it seems to have a slightly wiggly battery back. There is a bit of 'play' even after the battery has clicked into place and is 'locked'. Doesn't affect the normal running in anyway, nor does the battery disengage or fall off, yet it is mildly irritating to have that play when I tug the battery pack. Does anyone else have the same issue? Do I need to take it back to the sony store and ask for a replacement?

Thanks in advance!

go ahead and try your luck... but better pray you dont get one with worse niggles

if you have bought it from a sony showroom and if its about 3-5 days old you can have the entire laptop exchanged for a new one . although i am not sure about other shops/dealerships.

thanks guys for the ultra quick replies

@ bottle - you mean if they replace it, I could get one with an even worse niggle?!

@ sunny27 - yup I bought it from one of the main Sony Centres and it's barely a day old.It would be awesome if they do replace the laptop, as I said it doesn't seem to be a major issue but it is disappointing to get a new laptop with what seems to almost be a design flaw.

@cyberjunkie - you think I should ask for a replacement or it's something that's an accepted part of the cw series?

Other than this (hopefully minor) niggle, I'm fairly happy with the build quality and the overall feel.

A completely unrelated query - the guy at the sony store partioned the HDD, is it still possible to create recovery discs, using the vaio recovery software? The windows 7 is preloaded on it and there are no separate disks in the pack. The accompanying manual says it's critical to make the discovery discs.

Apologies if I sound like a complete newbie, I am!

Thanks to all of you once again!

Am not so sure about the vaio recovery software, but if you navigate to control panel -> system and security -> backup and restore and create a system image for the os drive into external media, then certainly you will be able to restore your os even if you cant boot into the system

It looks like it's pretty common. You could show them the problem and see what they say. I don't think it's a major issue but if they can fix/replace it quickly without much hassles, worth a try I guess. A few months down the line and they might not be as courteous. It's a decent VFM laptop.

I did take it back ( yes, they were very courteous!) and the guy even opened a couple of new machines, the wiggle was there on the new machines as well as ALL the cw machines on display in the store,(just different degrees) and even on the sr series. It's probably a design flaw, like I said it doesn't affect the usability in any way & I'll hope it stays that way. I have wedged a very thin piece of greeting card and the wiggle has disappeared. In every other respect it seems to be a good laptop, given the price point.

Thanks everyone for their replies :)
