Will DTH be better than whatever I'm currently using?

You have a HD ready device - so a HD STB will give you better clarity. The only issue faced so far is in the rainy season - signal sometimes goes for full toss and cost - it aint cheap.

Yeah I know. I'm buying a 42" full hd before Diwali though, but what happened today was both shocking and unbelievable for me. Rain and some thunderstorm occurred and the connection was totally out for 90 minutes, I couldn't believe it. Really, if connection is not there for ~90 mins (10:50 pm to 12:35 am) for 2 hours or so rain, then what'll happen in monsoon, total disconnection for 3 months or what? Seriously I need to know, I'll be disconnecting this otherwise and move back to cable. The major reason behind taking the DTH was for me to watch live football matches, and if I can't watch it, well, no need, I'll rather watch a Full football match in 360p rather than not watching it in 1080i. Before taking the connection I saw several and many people saying that their AirTel DTH rarely goes out, even in heavy rain, well I've seen what I've seen, and that maybe is enough.
Thank you DTH, you're still an immature infant.

I don't know other DTH, but I'm TS HD+ user from the last couple years (since HD+ box launched)

In TS HD I observed :-

1.When the first heavy rain start pouring (from a sunny weather) the signal completely lost until the rain settles or reduce. Then the signal gain back - No disconnection if the heavy rains come back or not.

2.During the middle of the monsoon - If heavy or low rain no matter what the signal is there, no interruption....so there is no 3 months disconnection.

3. During the Thunderstorm - Signal is completely lost & I'm ok with that, As I don't want to plug in my equipment during heavy thunder.

4.If there is clear blue sky and suddenly the heavy cloud formation started, the signal completely lost - First the HD channels gone then the SD channels. It will be gain back if user shut off STB completely & restart.

I already moved from DTH back to cable for the very reason. Apart from the usual niggles with the cable operators, I see not a big loss - since I hardly watch TV :P

Thanks a lot for this information mate. I'm quite sure that TS and AirTel will be same, as they are the most expensive and stable DTH operators in India, doesn't really matter if one agrees or not. One thing, you said there's no disconnection in the middle of monsoon, what happens at the beginning?
Oh, some people in DreamDTH forum were saying a bigger dish solves the interruption problem in rainy areas, and they provide 90 cm dish for that, I don't know how big is my dish though. Could/Should I order a bigger dish from AirTel?

Lol, parents won't let me switch to cable now, they clearly established that they won't let me spend 5.5 k for Hathway STB again, they said this is not a joke! So whatever AirTel provides I'll have to settle with it now, honestly I don't care as long as I can see the EPL and UCL matches, if I can't then I don't know what to do! Those are the only thing I ever watch on T.V., other than that I barely watch it, what's really there to watch anyway? :p

When the weather changing from summer to first monsoon Point 1 is applicable as I mentioned in my earlier post

1.When the first heavy rain start pouring (from a sunny weather) the signal completely lost until the rain settles or reduce. Then the signal gain back - No disconnection if the heavy rains come back or not.

Yes....mine is mesh type, not a solid one....Installation guy mentioned TS provide mesh type for the DVR so during rain the recording may not hamper easily....but I don't know how true that is

Thanks for the pictures. Mine is a solid type though, think it's normal because I don't have recorder.
Btw, I think I'll give up on the English HD movie channels, there's no sync of A/V whatsoever, the video appears 1 sec prior to the audio, really irritating, noticed for one hour on Zee Studio HD :( Only NGC HD, outta all the English channels have somewhat okay A/V sync. Damn...

Maybe you should contact your service provider. No such problem with Airtel.

I contacted them already, they said if all the HD channels are like that then it's a problem, if not then it's their broadcasting problem, as all the Hindi HD channels I watched today were okay I am quite sure it's their problem. The sad part is no one reports anything, my 2 friends have ADTV, one watches Discovery all time but they are som so ignorant to notice anything, had it been a sports channel alright, but how in earth would one not notice in channels like Zee Studio or Discovery?
