hi guys !!!!
my components
x2 555 3.2 Ghz
4gb ram 1600mhz
vx450
resolution- 1440x900
now the thing is that i was going for 5770 when gtx 460 came by !! so wat i wanna kno will gtx 460 wil be an overkill for this setup??? i was upgrading my monitor but dropped the idea due to lack of funds :( and will x2 555 bottleneck it ??? is 5770 hawk better than vanilla gtx 460(in tems of cooling etc) ????
TIA

for 1440x900 it is definitely overkill... not worth the price difference... 5770 hawk is more than enough to play with all settings maxxed in most games :D

even 5770 is an overkill imo due to resolution.

5770 shall be good enough uptil FullHD.

save the extra and upgrade your display soon. you would have pretty balance rig then.

The answer is pretty simple, If you want high fps in Crysis, Metro 2033, Far Cry 2 or Bad Company 2 with everything at max, GTX 460 is the way to go. For stuff like Call of Duty etc even the HD 5770 is overkill at above resolution.

so wat i wanna kno will gtx 460 wil be an overkill for this setup???

There won't be any real bottleneck, Your CPU will bottleneck but not in the way you're thinking.

will x2 555 bottleneck it ?

5770 is a sweet card and would compliment your system quite nicely.

well m not gonna get a gfx card so that I can play "crysis" maxed out. but wat i want is that the card serves me well for two yrs atleast !!! about display upgrade i cant be sure. (i badly want one though).

5770 will be good enough for most games but as sidhu said 460 will handle demanding games better so if u have cash then go for 460 .

well now i gotta wait for the prices of gtx 460 768mb version to show up. my decision depends on their prices. btw is 5770 or 5850 be gettin price cuts anytym soon ???

gts 450 will be out in september and as per the leaked specs , if it has 256 shaders and 750 mhz+ clock ,it will pwn the 5770 . so there might be price cut on 5770 but it will take long time ..

GTX 460 768mb already available around 12k ..

hmmm thanx for the info !! guess my aging 8600gts has to still serve me few weeks before i bid farewell to it :P

Where did it say 256 shaders? if its true, it will pwn the 5770 easily...the clocks were 789MHz as per the leak...

Can the VX450 handle the GTX460 power requirements ?

Will he not have to move to atleast a VX550 to be on the safe side ?

For your resolution, I would say, go for a 5770 as you already have a nice AMD setup. But, as it is with the rest of us geeks, the upgrade in monitor comes at a time, when you expect it the least. So, I would say, go fro a 460 as its slightly faster than 5770 and you wont regret if and when you upgrade your monitor. But if you have a crossfire capable mobo, then go for 5770 or up....

Alternately, buy a 5750 (or whatever is equivalent of 4850, GTS 250 in ati's 5xxx series). This should be enough for your current monitor. I am talking max settings with 4x aa (except maybe Crysis, Metro 2033, and GTA 4 etc.). If and when you upgrade the monitor, sell the card, use the money saved here + money you get by selling the card + money saved till then to buy the new powerful card. Lets face it, neither the 460 nor the 5770 is powerful enough to take advantage of DX11 when it arrives.

Or, get a 5750 right now and buy a nice bottle of Jim Bean or JD with the money saevd and invite me over..... :P

i don't think if its (monitor upgrade) gonna be a reality pretty soon :( as i have passed my pc budget pretty well :P . well m fine with my monitor for now thats why want a gpu which can help me play with full eye candy on this monitor.

EDIT: sry bro just got antiquity blue in my inventory ryt na !!!! :P

don't get palit gtx460

a member of digit forums bought the card for 14k

had temps of 95C

called customer center for rma, but was rudely denied

so he sold it for 13k

and got himself an hd5850 for 15.9k!!!

you may try msi or gigabyte gtx460 though if you are an nvidia guy

but say no to palit

^^ A smart consumer will look at ASS first, Palit's ASS has some horrible tales, I would say go for any brand Aditya Infotech supports, in this case Zotac seems the best bet.
