It's Nothing Personal
Herald
I have booked 2 railway tickets to Bhopal on the 7th of December. I booked it on 27th November, and the train is Rajdhani Express. I'll be traveling from Bangalore. The tickets I've booked are both for me, one in the 2-Tier AC and another in the 3-Tier AC, in hopes that at least one will fare a better chance to get confirmed and I can cancel the other.

The 2-Tier AC has a wait list of - W/L 61 W/L 19 - as of now
The 3-Tier AC has a wait list of - W/L 145 W/L 47 - as of now

Today is 3rd December already, and four days still remain. Do I have chances of getting at least one of my tickets confirmed? Or should I try for Tatkal tickets? I'm not experienced traveling by trains, but the suspense is killing me already. I HAVE to reach Bhopal by 9th December morning.

From my experience look like your ticket not going to confirm on time...
Tatkal is best option for you.be ready at 10 pm on 6 th December....
Don't cancel your ticket right now as if it still show waiting list then you will get refund automatically

From the looks of it, I doubt it. Had it been under W/L 5 or sometimes even 10, you had a fair chance of getting it confirmed. There are two things you could do here:

1. Head to a counter, get the physical i-ticket booked (nvm the w/l status as of now). You can always enter the compartment and do some adjustments with the TTE later on, since the money would not be refunded if your ticket doesn't get confirmed when the charts are prepared. Whereas with an e-ticket, it gets refunded so you are not entitled an entry into the train by legit means.

OR

2. Head to the counter before the day of commencement of the journey and get a tatkal ticket. The queue would be long so plan accordingly so you can get yourself a confirmed ticket before the seats run out.

but the suspense is killing me already.

Tatkal tickets can be only bought 1 day before? I'll try to get a ticket, but if not, what are my options?

If I had to take a bus, which would you guys recommend? I have to reach Bhopal on the morning of 9th of December.

Be informed that if tickets are booked thru irctc and are waitlist until the chart preparation time they are automatically cancelled!!
I learnt this the hard way last month

Mohit

So, would it be wise if I get a physical i-ticket now? I'll try my best to get a Tatkal.

I couldn't find any bus to Bhopal from Bangalore on redbus or makemytrip, and even KSRTC. Can anyone help me prepare a bus route, doesn't matter if it takes 2 or 3 buses, the main point is that I'll have to reach Bhopal by 9th of December.

Go to mumbai from blr. (16hrs). and then to bhopal from mumbai (15 hrs).

Whever you book tickets to Bhopal make sure you check Bangalore to Delhi also.

Book till Delhi and get off at Bhopal. Works like charm.

300 bucks extra is less painful then all the above process :P

you would have had chance if you would have opted for sleeper class, but 99.99% no chance unless some miracle happens.

7th December is a wedding Muhurat for central / north part of India so expect lot of passengers.

You can do what an Indian does best in every situation, HEY BHAGWAAN ........... !!!!!!

Nope, you should have purchased a sleeper too (on second thought 2-tier a/c one might just turn into an RAC)... Sleepers generally have a better chance than A/C. If you are open to break journey, then look for a bus trip from BGLR to HYD, and then train from HYD to Bhopal, you might have a better chance.

I checked my wait list status again as of now. The 2AC has come down to W/L 14 now and the 3AC to W/L 42.

I'll hope for more people to cancel their tickets and hence get me promoted in the queue :P
--OR--
If not, then I'll try my luck with Tatkal.
--OR--
And finally, if I don't get lucky with that too, I'll have to board a bus.

I'll keep you guys updated, wait for the climax :D

Why not a flight???:O

Take this as a lesson, next time GAREEB RATH

No trains from Bangalore to the North in that particular train class. Have you traveled by this train? Have heard that it's the best value for money in terms of transport.

P.S. - My 2AC has moved up to W/L 13 as of now.
