@Smith ---- How the heck can a Carrera GT be faster than an Enzo?? NO WAY!!!

On the Top Gear test trwack, the Enzo was faster than the Carrera GT. You are talking through you hat now :P What you are saying is simply impossible.

And while the carrera GT has superb control(I mean it is a porsche after all :), the Enzo is no less..... It is a Ferrari!!!!
Thats ONE track and ONE weather dude!. AFAIK..on MANY tracks..in MULTIPLE weather conditions..the CGT owned the ENZO.

Ohh and ppl who say that porsche's new four wheel drive has crap pecision n handling..bring it on mate!!

and i think the porsche n other super cars come under the "mid" engine category..pls correct me on this if i am wrong...the "mid" engined cars offer a stable cntre of gravity ...giving the car enormous amount of road grip, (This is read today in a mag that reviewed the lamby Gallardo Spyder)

@Smith ---- The Carrera GT is just not faster than the Enzo. It is just slower. On average it will be slower. Some tracks, due to the driver factor, it may be faster.....but overall it is slower...

And the Top Gear test is actually quite good.

One single track and the SAME person drives all the cars..... So, the driver factor is also removed.

But the CGT is the best Porsche ever made..... no doubt abt that. and the 4 wheel drive is superb.

I dont think they actually tested the Bugatti on their test track...

And the fastest time on their track right now is by the Maserati MC12 which is a modifed Enzo.

And we can never know the actual handling of the Veyron coz the TG team did not test it on their track, throwing it around corners, etc.... But yeah, it has to be good.... But when it comes to sheer pleasure of driving, I would go for the Ferrari still..... coz their cars are more flickable and throwable around corners.

Veyron is good but it is too heavy to throw around corners....

yup there is speculation that the buggati will be in the series 8.I read that on the finalgear forums.if it does,,nothing like it.

whats the time u expect?imo itll be below the 1min range...somewhere near the renault F1 time.Who knows it might be just below the Harrier jump jet! ;-)

Porsche does not have THE BEST controls. But they certainly have one of the best handling characterstics.

And what Saumil says is true..... at very high speeds, the Porsches are not as good as say a Ferrari or Lambo. Simply because of the rear engine.

But at anything this side of 300lmph, they rank among the best. And yopu cannot actually choose between a Ferrari and Porsche and say one is better than the other.......
Nikil as far as i know all Ferrari's and Lambo's are rear engine cars... so rear engine cant be the reason why porshe arent gud at high speed... if at all they are bad at high speed it must be due to thier design...

Ok guys...i finally dug out my yr n a half old issue of Motor Trend.
Theres a speed n track test of the three modern GTs.
The Enzo, CGT, FGT

Heres how the comparo goes:

Top speed:
1) Ferrari Enzo --> 211.0MPH
2) Porsche CGT -> 201.9MPH
3) Ford GT --> 200.1MPH

MT's test track results:

1)Dry:
1st pos: Enzo
2nd pos: CGT (+0.91secs)
3rd pos: FGT (+2.16secs)

2)Wet:
1st pos: CGT
2nd pos: Enzo (+3.66secs)
3rd pos: FGT (+3.67secs)
Testers' inputs:

Enzo ($625,830 .. this was in 2004)
--------
For: 1)Screaming Engine
2)Effortles Shifting
3) Unbelievable speed

Against: 1)Limited handling
2)Not "ferrari" beautiful
3)Wallet crushing price.

HOT: Digital speedo automatically remembers top speed achieved till date.
CGT ($448,300..this was in 2004)
--------
For: 1)Scintillating V10
2)Herculean Brakes
3)Outstanding poise and control at high speeds

Against: 1)Delicate clutch
2)Convertible results in added weight n drag
3)Instrument switchgear
HOT: Stability control system allows oversteer in corners without loss of control

FGT ($150,525...this was in 2004)
--------

For: 1)Gorgeous
2)Effortless torque
3)User friendly

Against: 1)Steering wheel too tiny
2)Notable vibrations at speed
3)Cramped interiors

HOT: Beautiful interior lighting (who cares?)

CONCLUSIONS
--------------------
1)Enzo: Quite simply the fastest production car ever tested on this track
2)CGT: One of the most amazing awesome all-round supercar ever made
3)FGT: A bargain-priced supercar with performance worth its famous looks
So, looks like the winner is the Enzo (sigh).

I took my time typing this guys...no scanner :(

my input: damn u porsche for not making the CGT a coupe..bluddy thing has the largest drag among the three cars tested.

quote from mag: We did not test the SLR because we dint want to hurt a poor fat pig among the big cats.
edit: GTH u peeps who say that the porsche handling n control sucks...for chrissake is that company's trademark for over a generation.

quote from mag: We did not test the SLR because we dint want to hurt a poor fat pig among the big cats.

True!!! that car is not worthy of the McLaren name...

and the Fordt GT also does not deserve to be there..... Maybe a Lambo or a Pagani would have been better.

The Ford GT is an overhyped car. It looks stunning. Goes superbly well in a straight line. But hates corners like all american cars.

It is just an overhyped and faster American Muscle car.

EDIT: Kumar --- the Carrera GT is also mid engined IIRC

this one for delhi peeps: Look out for a gorgeous electric blue ga-ya-rdo (gallardo) coupe in ur city..some xyz industrialist owns on it seems.
aah..got his name..Samir Thapar..lucky fellow hit 260k's in that beauty ON indian roads..wow :O

@nikhil
ok my mistake.GT IS a mid-engined rear wheel drive car.
As for the Ford GT,Jeremy Clarkson is impressed by the GT's handling. In fact what he wasn't happy with his GT was it drank like a fish.It gave him 4mpg on the paris trip.

I know abt the mileage on that trip.....

In the very first show with the GT, it stopped in the middle of the runway remember?? OIf course, that was for added drama for the cameras :P

and at the end of the season 7, the Top Gear Awards awarded it the "Gas Guzzler" award, beating out the Range Rover (8MPG), the Bugatti Veyron (4MPG), and the Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire Oil Storage Terminal fire (60 Million gallons and never moved an inch).

Bugatti Veyron.....................wat a car :yahoo: :yahoo: .................and the price tag $1,192,057 even more mind boggling...........tats abt Rs.5,28,67,727.95 (Rs.5.28 Crore) :what?:
