I dont think u wud wanna watch a video on that small screen, if your keen on the video aspect get the PSP, nothing to beat it. Get the PSP for 10k and a 2 gig mem stick duo for 5.5k. 700MB after encoding to PSP playable format becomes 400MB and a 2gig stick is more than enough. I have done that, and am extremely happy. I use my PSP everywhere.....car, while travelling, at home. Besides I use the wifi feature of the PSP also, where in I can tune into thousands of international radio stations and play it wirelessly on my PSP( u also need to have a wifi card on your PC).

sorry for this late post and that too after the ipod vs iriver debate is over :P

But just my 2 cents... I used an iriver for abt a year and then I got an ipod. When I first plugged in the headphones, and turned it on(no pun intended :P ), I was shocked. The sound quality was waaay inferior to what I was used to.

At that time, I remembered only Bottle had a mini. I immediately spoke to him and he told me that it was the same for him too and that I had to just live with the sound quality of the ipod.

Chaos also told me that the ipod's sound quality was waaay inferior to the irivers.

Today after using the ipod for abt 6 months, I am very used to it. But I still think that the iriver had better sound quality by a mile.

And according to Chaos the ipod shuffle had better sound quality than the regular ipods.

Sorry for this late post again... just hope it helps you.....

I am never sitting in the car you are drving :P  Seriously.... how do you use it in the car?? at traffic jams??:P

@Darthcoder: Firmware upgrade eh.. the fps prob solved then

@Ragin_Ice: PSP eh?.. hmm.. not toooo interested in it, but thanks, i never thought about getting a PSP tho... will look into it..

Regarding video in iPod and iRiver: i kinda agree with what Crazy_Eddy told me earlier.. the video part is just a gimmick.. no-one would watch a movie on a teeny screen..

And Nikhil: Thank you VERY much for your input!!!! (P. Its never too late! :P)

I do :P ...pretty often at that...best for boring classrooms and long train journeys :P

sorry to revive an old debate :p

but here is my take on MP3 players...

I had been using for a ipod for arnd a year when i got a iriver PMP-120....

I personally found non discrenible sound difference between the two..

I got a rio carbon for my sis last month and again barely any diference in sound....

(BTW I am no audiophile, but had i been one, i wouldn't belistening to MP3s :P )

By the way another funny thing..when i got my 1st ipod, i found the sound quality too tinny and lacking bass....anyway, i plugged in a pair of sony mdr-nc11, and the sound became nice and good...so i blamed it on the bundled headphones and used the ipod with the nc11 for a while....

then i listened to another friend's ipod (BTW he bought it frm B. Bzr :P )a few months down the line and it sounded pretty good....

I was like WTH.....

Guess what the difference was.....the ear buds (that soft cover on the earphones) which i had never bothered to put on the earphones...damn!

:ohyeah:

My opinions given in my post were after using the ipod and iriver ONLY with my Sony headphones.... not used the included earuds either with the iriver or the ipod :P

Thanks for the pm and info Superczar...

BTW do you know anyone from Burma Bazaar? it'd be better if i buy from a known contact than as a noobie customer..

No known contacts... :(

though what i hear is burma bzr has 2 parts, 1 is the long stretch of shos after and opposite Parry's...and 1 is a small stretch opposite and before Parry's which is called evening bazaar..that's where the wholesellers sit who are usually unwilling to seel Retial unless it's a hi-ticket item like a ipod or iriver..you can try there, they usually will have a whole carton full of boxed ipod's so (possibly) lower chances that they are refurbed :)

Another thing which is overlooked and which is a BIG disadvantage of iPod is the storage mechanism. A 30 GB iPod can have max. 8000 songs (192 kbps) whereas a Creative Nomad/iAudio X5L can have around 10,000+ songs of the same quality.

OT:

I repeat again, the best MP3 Player in the market is iAudio X5L 30GB, and emma gonna get my hands on one soon...no iPod for me :bleh:

hmmmm...checked out the X5L player in person...the 30 giger is priced exactky the same as the 30 Gig video....

2 cribs however- A smaller screen vis-a-vis the ipod video and ..and....

the bigger and more important crib which it shares with the iriver PMP-120...folder based browsing....with anything over a 1000 songs, folder based browsing becomes a very very horrible experience.......for a 30 gig device, that makes it a no-go decision IMHO

^^ Czar! Where did you see one? Shop? How much?
Waddaya mean by "the 30 giger is priced exactky the same as the 30 Gig video...."
the price of iaudio 30gig = ipod video 30 gig ??

Also, my music collection is well arranged, so i think i can manage... as long as there is a playlist option..

^^ Czar! Where did you see one? Shop? How much?

me in NYC

price was $299 +8% NY tax

I'd still suggest not spending the time hunting for one...the folder based browsing sucks on large music collections..

Though I think it'll have a playlist option for sure though

Keep in mind though thta if u plan to use the player for a couple of years, and when the batter inevitably dies out after a while, you'll have no hassles in getting a replacement for the more popular players, whereas the iaudio battery may prove difficult if not impossible to find

oops, your location said Chennai, so i thot you came back early!

Well, in the case of an iPod, once the battery's kaput, you cant replace it yourself now can you...
Hmm.. i think the iRiver's battery is easily available *Pray*

BTW I saw it in just one store which makes me doubt that if it really was such a good player, why didn't i see it anywhere else...

Given that ipod's are more a style statement and hence sell well, but iriver players are also quite readily available...I Wonder why the X5L isn't available almost anywhere at all

Hmmm... now this reminds me of a Windows vs. Linux debate.... :p

Anyway, will try to chk Burma Bazaar tomorrow (hopefully)..

nahh..me not trying to peddle it :P

he need sone soon, and I am not back until April ;)

I'm all for the ipod because of the simple fact that unlike a PC/PDA or even a phone, a MP3 player is not a very hi-tech device and good usability takes precedence over most other things...esp. given the fact that (at least I feel) most MP3 players have more or less simlar sound quality

Having been using a ipod/iriver PMp-120 and a Rio Carbon, I can vouch for the mucho superir usability design of the ipod

Ok, me followed Superczar's directions and enquired the prices of the ipod... no iriver or anything else was there...

iPod 30gb- Rs.13500
iPod 60gb- Rs.18200

I still dunno what to do...
