I'm looking to buy a 19" crt as my old 17" is on the fritz and i need some suggestions.

Also i'd like to know the difference between a Samsung 997MB and a 997DF as both of them cost the same and i couldn't spot much of a difference.

MB = Magic Bright Extra features

DF = Dyna Flat

But i dont think 997MB is available in India... Only 997DF is available...

was trying to convince him to go for a LCD instead of a crt, but he doesnt budge. Thinking about 3 years down the line, it makes much more sense to go for LCD.

Well LCD is not a bad option at all... But if you are short on cash a CRT makes sense as prices are quite cheap now a days...

Also there are good Deals for 19" CRT's on TE himself... If he is willing to buy a second hand... I think Soulfire wanted to sell his and so does stormblast as he is also thinking about going LCD :)...

Hmmm.... Tell him to go and have a look at LCD's in person... Maybe that will change his mind...

There is one 19in CRT for sale in market section....at very good price... Check that out....

Edit: Oops u from chandigarh....

@garav

Judging by the long intervals you change graphic cards, a 19" lcd will be a bad choice once your x1900xt can no longer run games at its native resolution.
The stretching of a lower resolution to fit over 19 inches of real estate can look real ugly.

If games are not your concern, or if you plan to bring the gpu up to speed with the lcd every 18-24 months, only then get the lcd.

beg to disagree... games look awesome on my 940BW, and graphics ain't too bad either... The 5700 rig is also with me, and I could surprisingly play farcry at 1440x900 at medium detail easily. The 7900GTX pa3ns FEAR at high detail too, but the res in FEAR ain't wide, only 1024 and 1280 res's are available.

btw I have a SS 997DF, excellent monitor, really excellent. I haven't sold it going LCD either.

@gaurav: I suggest that you take look at a 19" WS LCD before you make a choice. LCDs have become a bit affordable now.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think i might go in for a ws lcd now.

How much did you get that 940BW for Vandal?? I asked my dealer and he quoted a price of around 18.5k.

he is quoting a very high price... i got it this week for 15.9k here in chennai

also checkout the viewsonic vx2025 garav. its a little high on price but is a great monitor. if u have the money then may as well get this. u arent gonna change the monitor again n again so its a 1 time investment so check out the viewsonic.

I was browsing through some websites and i found this article comparing 6-bit and 8-bit lcd's.

8-Bit vs. 6-Bit

According to this 6-bit lcd's only display 262,144 colors whereas 8-bit ones display 16,777,216 colors.

So what i wanted to know is whether this huge difference would be noticeable in games and videos???

not really....def not enuf that u will notice...coz the diff is not as large as wat is shown in that link....it does some optimz n covers as mentioned in the same article...

thats wat i hear...atleast tats wat i hope as my vx924 is a 6 bit :ohyeah:

but whatever little diff is there u will know when u see an image or when using photoshop or something.

as the guy said in vgames or movies its always in motion so wont notice much but i think overall colors on vx2025 should be more vibrant. this is just my opinion, i havent used a 940bw so dont know, just seen the vx2025 for half an hour.

maybe someone who has seen both can comment. rave has seen both i guess 940bw & he has a vx2025. maybe he can shed some light.

what does this mean ?? see the 940B has a native resolution of 1280*1024 rite ?? so u mean playing games at resolutions lower than this will make them look ugly ???

even the 17" 740N has a native resolution of 1280*1024 ...cant games be played nicely at lower resolutions (less than their native r) on lcd's ?

plz throw some light on these things guys ...thanks.

The 940bw has a native resolution of 1440x900. Setting the resolution lower than the native resolution makes the screen blurry according to what i understand and you would lose most of the details.
