this module connects with the motherboards internal spdif jumper connectors.if anyone having a spare module , please quote here..or if u r a philanthropist :ohyeah: , then please ship me one..i will pay the shipping charges.

the part is not readily available in India ,and as of now ,I cant spend a 1000 bucks for a new sound card.

Edit : need a mce remote kit(with ir reciever ). If someone has these lying around being useless , reply!

or any idea what is the cost of a new one? need cheap ones, since short on cash.

You don't need to spend anything. The SPDIF header is compatible with a CD-audio analog connector, the type you throw away immediately when you buy a drive. You need to cut off one end, and solder the wires to a RCA connector. And you're in business.

i think u got it wrong. spdif is supposed to carry dts and dd signals @ 1.5mbps.
in a single rca i cant do that, as it can carry only 2 channels. Hence the need for a module.

??WTH are you talking about??? The connector is identical to regular RCA. I use it all the time without issues. The module does not have both outputs simultaneously. SPDIF only defines the pipe. It can carry anything that is defined in the spec, and the electrical properties don't change whether Asus sells it to you or you make it yourself. You just have to take a bit of effort to hack it and make it yourself.

But it's your money, so good luck!

SPDIF uses the same connectors as RCA

Only difference is regular RCA modules carry a single channel analog signal while SPDIF can carry multiple channels multiplexed digitally

so whats is the verdict on this?can regular a rca carry the signal?

okay read this : RCA connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

gained some knowledge today :).
but still as i am looking for the spdif primarily for connecting to a av reciever..ie for a htpc...i would want to buy that. would not like any loose wiring as my parents would have to deal with these systems anyway later on.

@Sangram : So if I plug the CD-audio analog connector to the SPDIF output in my motherboard and solder the other end to "A" (marked in pic) it would be good to go ? If yes, then its useful info to me, I was actually looking for such a thing for some while. Thanks :)

thanks for the forthcoming guide sangram!

edit : would any sub 1.5k sound card make a difference in the sound quality when gaming/ or listening to music? i heard that that realtek onboard cant do the eax soundtracks easily. so if a card like audigy improves the gaming sound considerably, while providing the spdif as well, it would be wise for me to buy that as i would be playing games as well on my htpc!

I have one ASUS SPDIF MODULE with me ( came with my mobo, but i am not using it), i can sell it, if you are in kolkata.
