I was surfing shop.ubi.com when i came across the gamer's edition of Peter jackson's King Kong.

http://shop.ubi.com/Prod_ExtDesc.asp?catalogid=349&id=89

The gamers edition has beefed up graphics as compared to the retail one. Looks to me as if the gamers edition is the x360 port while the normal one is a xbox port.

The difference between the graphics is like night and day !! But so as the system requirements ! Also this gamers edition is a download only copy, not to be sold in stores.

System requirements

Code:
Supported OS: Windows® XP

Processor: Pentium IV 3.0 GHZ /AMD 3000+ or better

RAM: 2 GB

Video Card: 3D 256 MB, supporting Pixel shader 3.0 and Vertex shader 3.0

Sound Card: DirectX9.0C compatible, EAX 3.0

DirectX® Version: DirectX 9.0C

Hard Drive Space: ~5 GB maybe more

Supported Video Cards at Time of Release: ATI X1800/NVIDIA 6800 or better

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported.

Normal edition

Gamers edition !

Yeah saumil, but look at the system requirements mate !! Only those with the absolute hi-end cards will be able to be enjoy the game in all its glory ! :(

This is nuts. Specially for PC game. When it comes to PC they need to make single scalable game. I mean they expect user to pay twice if in future he upgrades and is now capable of handling better graphics for the same game.

The game edition should have been released such that it scales itself down if proper hardware is not there like 99% of the PC games today.

Anyway , atleast Blade you got your wish. I remember you saying if this game looked like crytek engine ;) looks preety close it it :P

Now the thing i am interested in knowing if what kind of HDR this gamer edition is using if its using it. It looks like that its using it from the screenies. Now i want to know if its FP16 blending or not.

The 6800gt is the true indicator of pc requirements in this case and it seems reasonable enough.
The x1800 admittedly looks scarey but that's just because ati's older line doesn't have sm3 which might be a basic requirement for this game; I am sure it would run easily on x800's if they had sm3...

Also the game is scaleable!
You people are overlooking the fact that the developer has done a very good thing by spending the time & effort in giving us 2 completely different versions for lo-end and hi-end pc's (instead of just a hi-end version that's unoptimized for lo-end pc's and looks washed out at low details).

The normal edition of king kong runs and looks very good on mainstream pc's.
