am surprised though that such a big forum and they didnt take weekly backups..

monthly backups should have been taken atleast.

now that its back, it will take some time to get back to its earlier glory, maybe 6months atleast...

Exactly my point. Consider it a warning for everyone who loves his data :P As per their post, they had a single local backup with them and it was corrupted so they had no options. :(

With prices of storage as cheap as they are, at least monthly, annual backups should be kept, with maybe weekly incrementals etc.

Of course, hindsight is always 100%, + we cant say for sure what all backups they were taking, but a lesson to be learnt here nonetheless. It will take them some time to bounce back again.

Bah . . .and i hope they learn that extra paranoid'ism helps no'one. . I hated the way they made the new members to wait n crap for their post to get approved n all . .
Infact . .that was the sole reason that i did not visit the forum more than a few times even after me being an auto enthusiast . .heh!

Very sad news and i cannot believe that there was no backup of the DB for the Past 3 years, there should be something behind it, well they can ask for help from guys like google as they always cache the pages and the recreation of content can be done easily and perfectly. Yes alot of work is involved but it can be done, there are many search engines who cache webpages................

I hope we here at TE as a family have folks taking care of DB backups and keeping the same at safe place in case of disaster.

3 years!! They should have been geeks enough to keep the backups in atleast 2 different places! Rilly sad and dissapointing.

errr...most of them are motorheads i guess, not geeks :P

I ll need to create my account again there now, only thing is, I never did use my old one cos of all the time delays they put on new members, so I never did become an old member

WTF!, all forum database gone . this sounds very noobish to me.

they should have kept multiple backups at different location, atleast one off- site backup. and all this can be done seamlessly via a Strict Incremental Database backup regime.

If these guys can't manage, they should higher professionals
