Xbox 360 - An RROD Experience

My faithful Xbox 360 Console RROD'd on me last month after more than 1 year of good service. After a service call was logged, I was assured of a replacement in 5 working days. It took 10 days to get it replaced as the stocks were not available.

Now here comes the funny part. The guy who came to replace the console had 6 other boxes with him. I asked him on how many consoles he replaces every day. The number is an astounding average of 12 consoles per day on all 5 working days in Bangalore alone!!!

Talk about 33% failure rate. I think it is much more than that. My confidence in the console is slowly going down.

A question to TE members. Can you get the console replaced a 2nd time within the 3 year warranty period if it RRODs again?

This is exactly the reason why I am getting a jasper from US (via KMD). Even though there is no gaurentee that Jasper is RROD immune, I havent seen any complaints regarding RROD from jasper users yet. Its more than 6 months they have been shipping jaspers (Aug 08).
 
and did the guy who came to give the replacement check ur old console for eerm any modding?

Confirmed jaspers only been spotted like 1-2 months back. Keep it in mind.

Jasper's aren't as widely available in the US market as you might believe.

Not a single Jasper has been spotted for Elite.

If you're getting it from US Arcade/Premium is your best bet to find a Jasper.

Also, is KMD going to make sure you're getting a Jasper?

I am ordering an arcade with 256MB builtin which has a very high probability of being a jasper. As far as I know A falcons dont have 256MB builtin. Also I read a few buyers' response on newegg who found thier 256mb builtin models were jaspers.

So I am just praying it would be a jasper, else I am out of luck but then here in India I am +ve I WONT get a jasper ;-) On Newegg I atleast have a possibility.:

I wonder if MS loses less money replacing RROD units than it does to piracy.
Makes one wonder if the RROD was an anti-piracy measure. You know, built-in obsolescence and all.
 
How much is it costing you the KMD way isn't shipping that going to be a hassle...Yup it seems everyone is getting a Jasper I think you'll be modding the console as no NTSC games available here....

Please update whether its a Jasper or not.

+ wat if it RRODs? Warranty from US (shipping charges) will b a bigger hassle. IMO better to get locally with 3 yr warrnty instead ;)

Tough luck buddy, that would be a Zephyr.

Keep your fingers crossed that it wont rrod again!

BTW I own an Falcon-NTSC elite brought in from US. I would recommend importing consoles only when you're are traveling frequently to US or else you've friends/relatives who do otherwise its a big pain.

If the console goes bad, you've to ship it so Australia which would cost you about 6k might as well spend it now and get a console in India.
