Guys, I want to buy PS3 too. But I have some queries :

1>I am considering buying PS2 for playing following games : Killzone, ICO, Okami, Shadow of Colossus, MGS Series. Will these titles be available for PS3 anytime soon like God of War1,2?

2>Should I buy a PS2 to play PS2 classics and wait till PS3 price drop occurs? Is there going to be any price drop in PS3 till diwali or end of this year?
even if PS3 had B/C then too you would have to buy original PS2 games to play

if you are not in a hurry then buy PS3 as it will be getting PS2 backward compatibility next year surely

about the price cut,

yes there could be a $50 price cut this fall but don't know about india

and new PS3's with 160gb and 320gb are coming.also white PS3's are coming

There is currently no new SKU's being announced. So chance of a price cut in highly unlikely, at least not any time soon.

actually a PS3 price cut is very likely atleast in Europe and India lies under SCEE

there is a 15m projection of PS3 sales in FY 10-11 and PS3 sales are on track but they could help from a price cut

increasing its h.d.d ... will cost less afaik ... if u could get your hands on a fat ps3 80gb ... do so ....

Exclusivity is called Monopoly.

not always.

if a dev is first party or second party then it is no monopoly

even third party if the dev whats to do something incredible with the platform then its their choice

yeah its another deal when exclusives are bought

To say frankly x360 is either for people with big pockets and good morale or people with corrupted morale.
wtf??????

that didn't even mean anything

Ethan_Hunt said:
Even if he finds a 60GB or 40GB model with backward compatibility, it would have strong chances of failure somewhere down the line.
and y will it be so ?? even the slimmer ones can fail ... dont know about the 60gb but the 80gb consoles were produced till mid of last year ... n fyi the specs of the slim and fat are the same ... leaving the dimensions and weight ....

buying a ps3 slim 120gb + a ps2 and getting it modded to play ps2 games will obviously be costlier than getting a ps3 fat 80 or 60gb and increasing its h.d.d

where has this morale thing come between the ps3 and xbox 360 ??

But they are no longer the SKUs and thus do not retail - talking of the 60GB ones here. There's a slim chance you will find a 80GB model as well - whatever remains is the old stock which unfortunately did not find a buyer.

And please point me to a link which shows that a slim PS3 has failed or YLOD'd or 3BOD'd. :)

LOL shows you have absolutely no idea about the specs of slim PS3. Do a search kiddo.

they could fail cause they are older and older machines have more chance of failing

they also have 90nm and 65nm CELL and RSX and that consumes higher heat

also if it fails hten even SONY doesn't replace if B/C is part of the failure

and b/c PS3 were discontinued atleast 2 years ago

i though you were talking about the cost of the HDD

anyways PS2 modding very cheap and if you buy from a local retailer then it comes pre-modded and still cheaper than SONY selling it

PS3 FAT are actually very much in demand AND COSTLIER,in europe and US and japan you can get $400 easily from a B/C PS3

where has this morale thing come between the ps3 and xbox 360 ??

yeah just didn't understand wither the big pockets or the moral thing

this is very rare and is easily solved by leaving ur PS3 to cool down but you asked for it so i posted

@ desecrator

doesnt matters how much u whine :P ps3 fats are still in more demand than the slim versions ... do some googling

and the diffrence is just with the procy .. its 45nm in slim afaik ... and 90nm in the fat ones ... so the slim one must be consuming less power ... what else a big a diffrence can you point me to ?? and the fat ones have been in the market since double the time of the slim ones so its obvious that a slim one would have less cases ... keep in mind both are machines ... any1 can fail ... you point me to somewhere where it says the slim one can never fail or get YLOD ... all you can say that the slim one is less prone so does the 80gb ... most of the cases have been in 60 n older models ..

and as you asked you got a video of the ylod in the slim version

Lol that video IINM is the only one floating in the web presumably made by some x360 fanboi. I'm on my iPhone can't see the video. Meanwhile what about the better cooling with a larger fan? Oh I think you must have included all these in the weight and dimensions part which you mentioned in your previous post! The reduction in the manufacturing tech does not mean a big enough change? Lol that itself meant the slim has in fact slim chances of overheating and ylod'ing.

No link neither Sony states that the slim wouldn't go ylod but there are none I have seen on the web by far.

how did you come to that conclusion

90nm can overheat much more than 45nm

comeon you two stop fighting

both machines are good

thanks to every one again for suggestions,

"What sort of price would be feasible for you to pick up the PS3?"

@Ethan Hunt

Actually, I want to buy it now but I thought since diwali is round the corner, we may have a price cut or some other lucrative offer. So i was willing to wait for few months.

"if you are not in a hurry then buy PS3 as it will be getting PS2 backward compatibility next year surely"

@Brickhouse

You said PS3 is getting backward compatibility next year. If it is so, then I dont think i will need PS2. I will be buying original cds of PS2 games, no downloads coz I have a limited download plan. Can you give me a link which confirms backward compatibility?

Coz i found this:

Sony Explain Why The PS3 Slim Has No Backwards Compatibility

No backwards compatibility for PS3 Slim PlayStation 3 News - Page 1 | Eurogamer.net

it depends on you and what your budget is.

Console don't get a price cut accoding to indian festival

if they have a price cut elsewhere in europe, japan,us,australia then only we get a price cut in around 2 months time

there is no link

i am just saying it by my following of gaming

SONY basically didn't introduce PS2 B\C as PS3 was making loss till last year and PS2 profits cut them some loss

PS3 is making a profit right now and SONY has recently patented Software emulation B/C for PS3 so it will surely be there next year

http://www.ps3news.com/images/img_13989.jpg

both of those don't mean anything

SONY was basically not providing it as if PS3 had software emulation then people wouldn't buy PS2's and the PS3 loss that was being covered by PS2 profits would be even higher

and as a fact SONY spokesperson were saying it.if they declared PS3 would get PS2 B/C then people would buy PS2's and wait

its the same for price cuts,if they announce that there will be a price cut then people don't buy and wait for the price-cut which harms the company's current sales

well, last year Xbox 360 was bundled with some exclusives during diwali at very awesome price. I think maybe Sony will do this too. India is an important market too. If not price cut at least there will be some good offer to push sales.

Regarding B/C compatibility, I think i will need to confirm this again.

BUNDLING IS A DIFFERENT THING

360 also did it as PS3 was going to get a price cut

india is nowhere near an important market for the whole of gaming

and SONY will not do it unless it get a price cut in EUROPE.If they don't cut the price there they certainly won't it here
If not price cut at least there will be some good offer to push sales.
sure that could be there.

Regarding B/C compatibility, I think i will need to confirm this again.

they won't confirm it untill they announce it and most likely it will be next E3,they don't want PS2 sales dropping
