It used to be so easy... buy the latest card and u would have the best performing rig although the pricing would be a killer.

And, now this crap line of products from nVidia and Ati/AMD :@ !

If the rumours about the 9900 series launching in Q3 this year is true, I'm sticking with my 7900GT SLis.

A spanking new 790i board,4 GB 1600 DDR3, 24" Ultra sharp and crappy 7900GTs on them :@ !

As far as I see, you tend to go for very high-end stuff and then stick to it for at least two years before upgrading. this is one golden rule as far as upgrades are concerned and you do well to follow it.

7900GT SLI still kicks some a** so stick to it before next gen cards come. you want a high-end card with fresh architecture that will keep your rig in pink of health for at least two years. RV770 or G200 (9900) will suit you fine.

RV 770 will definately come by mid-June. If this card is a performer, the way it is being claimed by ATI-AMD, G200 will definately come by early October. If ATI fails to pawn 9800GX2, Nvidia's new cards may be pushed back by a month.

PS: step-up is for 90 days. Even if Nvidia rushes 9900 series, I doubt it can appear before late August/ September

Get MSI 9800GX2 $559 IMO, I know U will buy 1 9800GTX now and 1 later, Buy X38 with Guaranteed D9GMH DDR2 chips and leave this SLi and DDR3 etc. :)

I trust KMD's warranty too (ordering quite a lotta stuff from him like an iPhone and RAM), but local warranty has it's advantages like easier to access, faster response and most importantly direct dealing in case there's any prob.

So, if I have to pay a premium for the privilege of chewing out a local support guy, I'd pay it :ohyeah: . Seriously though, Tirupati service has been very good. Experienced 1st hand with a 8800GT I got for a friend. Now if my only choice would be to buy from someone like Rashi, I'd a pay a premium to import it thru KMD :ohyeah: . Kidding of course, as KMD would be far cheaper :)

And I suppose the fact that a 9800GTX SLI performs better than a 9800GX2 + would OC even better would not budge ur decision?

Given the fact that the X38 brings nothing to the table over the P35 when using DDR2 , why do u suppose I should go for it?

C'mon man, if u have to give such blanket statements, how about some facts or proper reasons so that I would take ur posts seriously??

@morgoth, real good advice there, but I think I'll just go with it (9800GTX). Speculation about the 9xxx series made me jump over the 8xxx. If there really is a good next gen card coming up, I'm sure I'll find someone to buy these 9800s. Until then, atleast I'll get to kick some Crysis ass :ohyeah:

not a bad idea. You will always find buyers for 9800GTX willing to take it at pretty decent rates.
:hap2:
