i've decided not to install ics because of too many user problems i read on xda thread. if i root the phone in gb now, will i need to unroot it if i want to go to ics or jb in future? i want to remove the useless at&t apps on the phone. plus the stock gb gallery seems to have some memory leak. my battery discharged to just around 40% after 52 hrs or something after last charge (put it for charging now), and in the top 3, the gallery is always there at 30% usage of battery. i haven't even used it, so cant understand.

There are just too many issues with this phone & no warranty, is it really a good deal ? Isnt Pantech like the micromax/Spice of US ,so better to get one of the new micromax/Spice 4.5 - 5" than this?

I have ordered for this phone and i should be recieving it in couple of days shortly. Before starting with the phone i am looking for some clarifications The phone will work with micro sim only is this correct? I want to make sure the phone should work with both 2g and 3g network after the upgrade to ics so what are the precautions i need to take before and after upgrade.

it has only a microsim slot so you will need to cut the sim for it to work. for 2g/3g it will work automatically, since it is already set in phone by default to search for hspa/edge/gprs mode first then it falls back to 2g gsm mode. if you have 3g enabled in your sim it will work, else it will stay on 2g.
@Arjun, the issues are only with software and not hardware with this phone. even on gingerbread it is quite fast and responsive. there are software issues in motorola/ samsung/ lg/ sony phones too. this is quite a good deal since this is dual core and comes with 16gb internal memory in it. It shows up as 12.3Gb maybe because they have partitioned it to make space for factory reset or backup option. And Pantech is a Korean company, not a USA firm. In the end its your money. You can spend it on whatever phone you feel you like.

please dont call me sir. i feel old :D
you wont get a micro sim for the same number (this was what vodafone cc told me. cant say about bsnl). micro sim will be given only for a new number. better option would be to buy a sim cutter or get your existing sim cut from your local mobile recharge shop for a few bucks or free if possible. if you want an adapter, get a sturdy plastic one. it would be better if you dont keep changing the sim between this phone and another phone. with the plastic around the sim contacts gone when cutting it, cant say how long it will last if its removed repeatedly.
i'm using this as my primary phone so i haven't bought an adpater for the sim.

What ever people say about this phone but it is a steal deal in 7.2k bucks . SAMOLED screen , 16GB , dual core and ICS where do get in 7.2k . I am very happy with my purchase and enjoying every moment of it . Except the camera which is real bad....
Sometimes i feel screen is better or comparable to my S2 screen

btw, found out one bug in the wifi settings. It looses or disconnects wifi connection as soon as the screen turns off. happened after i disabled and enabled wifi. it keeps disconnecting as soon as it connects to the router. i even tried some settings in wifi to never sleep. still kept disconnecting from router as soon as it connected. saw that the problem goes away if using the wifi protected button on router. then no matter how many times the phone sleeps or wakes up it stays connected if wifi on router is on. weird.

Phone rooting experts: can i root gingerbread now and then update to ics in future without un-rooting it? i have both ics and gingerbread cwm's and root images. the ics files are smaller in size.
what would be better? upgrading to ics and then rooting it or rooting gb and then upgrading it?

yes yes yes
Root GB and CWM and than flash ICS from xda . CWM gives clean install with its cache and dalwik wipes

From time to time I get an error of Invalid SIM. If I restart the phone all is fine for sometme before the message crops up again.

On ICS its a permanent error that doesn't go away no matter how many times I reboot the phone so I reverted to GB and it works most of the time except for these random 'Invalid SIM' errors.

I am on Reliance 3G. Anyone else facing this issue ? I am on stock GB.

Maybe your sim isn't properly cut? Try with another operator.

Its a brand new micro SIM purchased just 1 week earlier. Don't know anyone else who uses a micro SIM. Another thing is that its random and occurs sometimes after a few minutes and at times after many hours.

I was using airtel 3G , havent faced this issue anytime on ICS . I have myself cut 2 sims with sim cutter . Flash ICS again and wipe dat and caches including factory restore

^^ Thanks. Will attempt another ICS update after a factory reset.

However I believe to have isolated the problem. I get a message saying 'Acquiring RWorld settings' with an option saying Yes or Cancel. I used to say yes and after a few minutes the invalid SIM message would occur. If I say Cancel then so far the SIM is working perfectly. :)
