English TV series discussion

Well India did have some historical serials, specially in the heydays of Doordharsan like Chanakya et al. Those were good. We still have some historical based series going on I guess Star Plus.Problem with Indian TV is same as the one with our Indian movies. The production values are lower, there is much of romanticism with showing unrealistic masala mixed stories. To top it off the daily soap opera nature of the Indian serials doesnt really help. One can hope though.
also there are many wars historically based upon religions and there will always be two sides to a story.there would be enough controversies already if there were to account for representing the true picture , with the one side crying for foul play to the other.

Saw the premiere of Spartacus S3 and as usual, plenty of bloodshed and a bit of skin show. Nothing very interesting other than that - I hope they wind up the series in a good way. This is going to be the last season. And by no means should this series be compared with ROME! The latter is a lot more mature and every single character contributes to the storyline effectively. There's no gripping suspense or cliffhanger ending but the series as a whole is brilliant. Few more episodes of S2 left before I wind up the series.

Completed my full re-run of Diff'ren Strokes and can't believe it still holds that charm after being cancelled for decades. It's a pity that it's child star cast instantly went into a downward spiral, post the show's conclusion. They all had immense potential, especially Gary Coleman, who practically owned the show. Conrad Bain passed away last month (God rest his soul). He was an amazing actor and clearly a positive role model from this show too. My childhood was spent admiring shows like these, unfortunately, those days are now long gone and we'll rarely have a chance to revive these gems.

Moving on, began American Horror Story's second season and holy shit, I totally love the atmosphere. It's set in this creepy Asylum and has all sorts of weird characters and bizarre plots. It's a total far cry from the first season's modern horror house madness. The entire set-up seems to be in a 1960's time line, which I find really intriguing. Most of the previous star cast has been retained and some have more prominent roles this time, like Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto. Jessica Lange, yet again, delivers an outstanding performance, but this time as Sister Jude. Really keen to see how this season turns out. Hope this one has a proper conclusion.

New TV Show - The Americans seems to have potential in becoming good Drama/Spy Series.

Plus FX always has a knack of picking up good shows.. Hoping for consistency after a decent Pilot.

So have you guys heard of NetFlix's House of Cards? It is remake of English TV series of same name and the new version is directed by Fincher and Kevin Spacey plays the main character.
I've started with the English version and looks very good indeed.

Hey!!! Why was BOSS cancelled? I mean Kelsey Grammer won the emmy for the best actor and also the show got nominated for Best Drama Series.
WTH??? :annoyed:

Wikipedia cites ""The show's low ratings are cited as the main reason for its cancellation".

Started The Wire. 2 episodes down so far and it's not as gritty as The Shield. I now understand why Shawn Ryan chose to go with the colour palette, it really gave the show a very authentic feel. What's the best season for The Wire?

All the seasons are great .. but Season 4 is universally acclaimed to be the best-on-tv ..

Personally I liked 4, 2, 1 , 3, 5

Watch Justified.

Too many serials nowadays Sid! Feb and March are going to be two hectic months since a lot of good titles are releasing. If I start watching a series and if it turns out to be good, I'll shelve the games. It happened with The Shield and ROME. :(

I'll take up Justified during April. It is definitely in my radar since it has Goggins (and Olyphant may be). Besides, you guys have recommended it enough! :D

Is that the one in which there is a character named Omar? Jeremy Jahn's review on YouTube immensely praised his role.

Omar is there in all the Seasons .. Season 4 is where he has his biggest presence(IMO).

Season 4 is bloodiest & focuses on the Baltimore Public School System and shows how generational poverty, lack of opportunity forces young kids to join the drug game..
