Android Never buying a SONY phone again !

My sympathies with you Rohan. This is thread is going to put a wet blanket on the many Xperia Z phones on sale here at TE. Couldnt have come at a worst time for the seller and best time for the potential buyer!

Sad new mate...... But my recent experience with Samsung was real good dropped my note 2 and the display cracked met a local guy the coast of the new screen was approx 7k but he gave me an offer he bought my old screen for 4k really don't what he will do with the broken one but my total cost for the replacement read 3k. Wish they're would have been something like this for Sony.
You only cracked the glass lens, but the display was still working i guess.

The lens is cheap. But when they do the replacement they replace the lens+display. It comes as one unit because its easier to install then to just replace the lens. That ensemble cost 8k.

This is a totally random thing because its not sure when you crack the lens whether the display will also be damaged, to your good luck it was only the lens and not the display. So the guy reimbursed you for your still functioning display which he kept. Mighty good of him to do that :) The display by itself is not available for sale anywhere, either you get both lens+display or just lens. So your phone is quite popular and he figured he could use it for osmebody else, saving them some cash as well.

Was this with a samsung service centre or 3rd party fix-it-all guy ?

Nopes not the glass mate its the display which was broken also I know the glass can be replaced for around 1.5k but doing that is not a eazy job had personally tried removing the digi from the amoled bit is almost impossible at least for me.

oh! then its a mystery why he'd want a broken display. If you get a chance why not ask him.

Was this at the service centre or 3rd party ?

Really don't know what he will do with the broken display, I paid him to be precise 2864/- but he gave me the bill from the service centre for 6864/- for the display. Still of he buys a broken display for 4k add another 1.5k for the glass so the total cost to him for the display will be around 5.5k why will someone take risk of replacing the glass as while replacing the glass the Amoled can brake.

No he works in a local shop in my area. And yes I did asked him what will he do with the screen he said sir apko Kya karna hai Aapka kaam to aadhe mae ho gaya:p.

After this I called the Samsung CC to confirm that is there any similar offer going for note 2 where they are replacing S4 screen for 500/- (first time) they said no.

Surprising. I have had an excellent experience with Sony when it comes to durability. My Xperia Sola has survived falling (bouncing down) an entire flight of steps, falling on concrete and asphalt multiple times and even then, not a single dent or crack on the display. Everything working just great.

It's sad that you had such a bad experience.

It simply means that he does not wish to share the info.
Guys at cellphone repair shop do it all the time. Other phrase they use "Aap aam khao, gutliyan kyun gintte ho" :p
There has to be an angle here. He's making a profit out of that broken display somehow.[DOUBLEPOST=1378679457][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah, there was an offer for the S4 in July where they would do a screen replacement upto Rs.7000 or therabouts, offer was good for 6 months.

He must have a contact at the service centre that will alllow him to swap a broken display for new. It must be a known thing as he'd not have offered you anything otherwise. He's competing with other repirs guys that offer the same. Certainly pays to shop around for repairs thats for sure.

Different series.

Feel its luck of the draw, OP himself said 1 in 10 have problems, that means you have a 10% chance of having this issue. Possibly lower. When you see threads like this realise that you do not hear the other 90+%. They never post anything because there is nothing to report. There is no sense of perspective here or how widespread the problem is. Sony never did get any US carrier to carry the Z, lets see whether they have more success here with the Z1.

Whether the Z1 has the same weakness or whether sony has put in countermeasures.

Sony will not use gorilla glass for some reason, they keep sticking to dragontail.

There have been multiple horror stories I have heard about Sony, so its not something new. In the case of one friend - the entire front panel came off (dunno how, but it did) and in the second, was not water proof.

If you look at user reviews for say routers on amazon, evey one of them has people swearing they will never buy said product again. Then there are others saying the opposite.

What assessment can you make ? Start to look at the distribution of 5-4-3 stars vs 1-2 stars. Which is bigger.

If the product has been out for some time more reviews come in and the shares start to get closer.

So what opinion can you come to as to durability of the product ?

The only opinion is that usually all the new models have some defect or the other. Look at Samsung, now Sony. They need more QCing. The second hardware reveision usually fixes stuff.

But that offer was for S4 and not note 2.

If by samsung you mean the S4, there were firmware issues with it. Crazy things like phone reboots itself if you take photos, lots of overheating. Samsung issued many updates and people seem to have quietened down since.

With the Z series, people fall in love with it. Fine. Its an emotional connect here so there is an equally emotional response in the other direction as well.

Just realise IF and this is a big IF you have to replace the screen, it will cost double to repair it. If you can live with that then buy any Z you desire. These are the cons it comes with.

What I meant is that if one device is bad, don't generalize and defame the entire company. Right?

Right, its very hard to make that case in fact, because all the evidence is anecdotal. Just because it happened to so and so does not mean it will happen to you and vice versa.

But you can say cost of repairs is much higher than with other companies. This is something sony needs to be pulled up and should act on. I cannot see any reason why sony india is incapable of fixing the z series in india. Maybe its in the works, and is not ready yet.
