Other iPad Air or Note 10.1 2014 or N7 2013?

I'm looking at iPad Air as well. The thing looks beautiful in all those 'review' videos...My scenario is a little different: This will be my first tablet and I'm mostly going to use it for watching some TV shows/movies while I commute to/from work. I guess depending on how much I will like the device, its usage will improve at home or the device may just end up lying around...

Although I've seen a lot of 'reviews' online, I need some user input - I've never been part of the iOS world and I've heard that it is too restrictive...so can someone tell me how much of a 'culture shock' it would be for me to move from Android to iOS? Specifically, how about apps and the various file format support (like mkv or avi or whatever) and how the hell does itunes work?

I know the questions may seem pretty silly, but I still want to get a glimpse of the 'real world usage' of an apple product...

@ayaskant12

Check the above pics. I connect the iPad, Select Apps, Select whichever Apps that let me file transfer, in this case the cloudreader and just add away. From as far as i read about iTunes. This is as straightforward a noob like me wants in a tablet.

Ios is a beautiful world. It may be restrictive , but i love my walled garden.
Storing and playing videos is damn simple. Just install a free app called imedia player . It will play all formats( yes 1080p videos is also included )Connect ipad to computer and upload your files via this App in itunes.
However, since ur primary interest in watching videos while commuting, you would be better off with a 7 inch tab like Nexus 7. Makes no sense to invest so much amount for video watching. Ipad's main advantage is the superior app experience.

So the ipad won't get mounted as a drive or something from which I can drag and drop files? This has to be done with itunes? What if I take my ipad to some other place where the pc does not have itunes?

And the 7inch vs 10inch battle is something that went on for hours on end in my mind...I finally decided to get something bigger than 7 inches because I don't see a 7 inch tablet being worth the money I spend (given that my phone is ~5inches) - the form factor upgrade isn't noticeable.
Besides, don't you think videos are better watched on a 10 inch screen when compared to a 7 inch one? (ipad or otherwise)

And when you say superior app experience, what exactly do you mean? Would you mind giving me an example?

Sorry for raising so many queries, but I'm still not convinced about the form factor, OS and stuff...

iPad gets mounted. But no drag and drop.

I had this question with me also. I will give an example. Android tablet, Home screens can be customized with widgets and what nots. Can be made awesome to see. But once you open up the apps, it just feels stretched out from a phone. Nothing great. I feel the app is wasting the real estate. iPad, Home screens are boring. Just like a phone. Waste of real estate. It is. But once you get to some ipad native or optimized apps. They are something else. The way pages are rendered, the gestures are detected without any lag, you feel the screen is actually being used entirely. Not just viewing. No way to describe this else. And also, the 4:3 or whatever the screen format is really shines in ipad usage. I like it better than 16:9 from Android tabs i frequented. Also, I dont know if android did this for me. Never checked. Say you are reading something and my thumb is resting on the edge of the screen. And I did a swipe page, It does swipe!!!. The thumb touch is not recognized. I dont know if i am mistaken about this. Coz when I actually touched my thumb purposefully and swiped nothing happened. :S.

Mate all this will come as hocus pocus. But try to use the ipad for a day or 2 from someone and see for yourself. Otherwise waste of money. I believe the online reviews and suggestion mean squat if it doesnt work for you.

This has to be the best advice mate. I never used to give iOS a chance after I sold my jailbroken 4s but I must say I was impressed with the iPad 4. Too bad it didn't work out for me.
In the past year I have used nearly every flagship device and now this is the same advice I give. Because the reviews are generic. Only when you use a device can you tell whether it is suited for your needs, and I have been pleasantly surprised by devices I would have written off if I would have only listened to the reviews.

Thanks guys.

I used an ipad air yesterday at a best buy and that thing looked sooo good! I used a Nexus 7 too but that didn't stand out so much - the form factor and the same UI from my N4 may have just killed any remaining interest with N7.

I saw a Nook HD+ as well (at a B&N) and that looked good too but realized that they are shutting down the hardware business so it might just be a bit difficult to get some parts (proprietary charging pin for one- wonder what they were thinking!)

Anyways, there's so much of rumor about a new N10 being on its way - so I've decided to wait until BF and if a new N10 doesn't show up, then iPad Air it will be :D

Same here mate
Almost decided on Ipad Air, want to check new Nexus 10 before buying.
If the rumour mill can be believed it isn't too impressive. LG make? And same cpu and chipset as on n7 will be a bad choice.

@m-jeri where did you get ipad air from? How much?

Hopefully it's releasing in India on 29th November:)

@m-jeri : is it possible to watch flash based TV shows on ipad? I mean from some of *those* streaming sites?
Yes its possible. It is not played in webpage though. Apple's propreitary video player comes into play whenever you click play( which in all probability decodes whatever format the video is stored in)

Well I PM'ed @m-jeri just now with a website that I usually use to watch TV shows and he said it didn't play!

I watch too many TV shows for me to splurge on a tablet that won't play the content I intend to watch :(
