He sure had a big mouth all these years in front of the crowds, using rhetoric and prose that would even impress Shakespeare. Why could he not have made efforts to polish his English skills. All these politicians are fake and sensational. He all ready has an English base (most educated do in India) just extend that. Just ignore all this patriotic stand nonsense. If the guy is doing business he needs to be comfortable in whatever language he uses.

Would you want to hear him speak in English at the UN GA. If he isn't fluent in English he won't sound that good. The way he speaks is going to colour people's perceptions about him.

Oratory is a very powerful tool for a politician. He won the elections speaking in Hindi, that's what works for him.

She has improved now.
I remember Deve Gowda trying to speak in hindi, that was quite a disaster.

What you mean explain why..?

English is a unifying language. Why else...! I just feel this is a gimmick for nationalism and public sentiments. Oration and rhetoric is all politicians have.
 
It's not a gimmick for nationalism and public sentiments. There are very sound practical reasons behind. It's being portrayed that way or let's say some people (fanboys?) are championing it in this manner and inviting their opponents to diss it.

I prefer to read transcripts of these speeches because the content comes across better and the delivery which is usually lousy distracts less.

Am not in favour of the MEA minister following in this manner though because that looks like she's slacking off.

Its amusing how Jagan and his dad YSR swiped off god knows how many Lacs of crores of funds and property, but he has the audacity to call the 30 crore expenditure of CBN's swearing in pompous. I don't understand why its being made such a big deal.

Its publicized that Telangana is the new state, but if you look at the ground realty, Andhra is the new state with has to start from scratch again and build everything including the capital. There is no doubt that Andhra region got a raw deal. Heck even now there is a lot of injustice going on in the bifurcation process every day. For instance, Telangana region is getting a major share of the resources like electricity because as per the TRS leaders and even actual figures, Telangana region has higher consumption (which is natural considering the extent of power cuts in most of the Andhra regions), but on the other hand, Andhra region gets a major share of the pending loan dues etc related to electricity. (Basically Telangana regions consumed more power in the past, but Andhra regions have bear the cost.

Given the situation, the state needs to get in investors in order to develop. This ceremony is a good opportunity for CBN to do just that. He is creating connections with leaders of other states and he is also going to get the attention of the potential investors with various schemes. Also considering that this ceremony has to be conducted in the middle of nowhere, 30 crore is seems like a small price.

Just to give some perspective, The fireworks that were burnt on Tankbund (hyderabad) alone on the eve of Telangana formation and KCR's swearing in were worth more than 3 crore of tax payers money !.

I was watching that channel during that time. NDTV was showing totally one sided coverage like they were paid by some party. I remember that there were no police, but paramilitary or RAF force was there in some places. Still those two reporters went about saying no police etc etc.

Its just my opinion but I feel during times of accidents or such riots, news channels should be blocked out or kept away from such sites for few hours.
All of our Indian English and Hindi language news channels are immature in how to deal with such situations. They crowd along accident sites like vultures, just so they can get those sensational shots. They don't help in rescuing victims of train disasters and only serve to act as impediments to first aid workers.
They lack in morals and behave like spoilt brats.
Even during the attack on Mumbai ( Taj hotel) they showed live coverage of police action outside which helped the attackers inside who were watching TV.
Government should be strict with these news channels imo.
 
And to think she got some award for best journalist (for the Kargil reporting I think) :shudder:
If I was an army guy in charge of the situation, I wouldn't let reporters come within 10 kms of the border at those times. As it is, we have hands full with terrorists and hostile neighbourhood army. Don't want to look after stupid reporters who want to show off their courage. Just think if even one of them died, the news channel would have blamed the army for months.
