BSNL Fiber router query

Did you get fiber modem? Whats cheapest available options for bsnl fiber? Tp link website doesnt have such modems. And amazon is sh!t with stupid search results.
No. I didn't take the connection anymore. (They increased the total amount to 5300rs citing the increased cost of the router because of lockdown.)
And then Jio appeared with 1500rs something offer with much better deal that too with the router/modem lmao. No one is going to take shitty BSNL at 5.3k.

So now 3rd party company taking care of installation going to kill bsnl :D. That was the only thing remaining to happen before employees, managers and owner of the company/ gov traumatized bsnl.

Yeah BSNL management is screwed up from top to bottom ranks. Its like the govt is no longer interested in funding BSNL or/and the BSNL staff are just there to make quick money.
I mean just what the hell do you have to offer something at 5.3k when your private competitions are destroying you with a mere 1500rs (all costs included) with much better service? Its baffling.

Well said. It's a disgrace in the name of organization. Neither employees not owner is bothered about its survival and wellbeing.

I got bsnl fiber installed at my place just last week. Installation was free and the modem was 2.9k . I've opted for 899 plan which is 50mps till 600gb and then 2mbps unlimited. Pretty happy as we don't have jio in my town or airtel and railwire quoted 8k as cable cost to my home apart from router.

Which modem are you using? Is it the BSNL provided ?

Bsnl on their site is boldly claiming, there are no installation charges for new fiber broadband connection. And any charges at all to be payable will be mentioned and payable on bsnl bill only. So, in a way its clear msg that broadband user is expected, to not pay anything to people who are doing installations.

Even customer isnt required to give form to anyone. New application can be made online. (So completely bypassing contractors milking or exploitation, ideally).

So anyone got installation done following this new practice? Because i applied online but nothing has happening imo wrt my connection. How to deal with this situation? As their twitter support is also shit.

Its BNSL doing BSaNaL things. They might have also contracted a third-party company to fulfill their services. Try to find that out first.
Also don't rely on any of their online support. Its a waste of time. I've tried for months.
The good news is there's Jio in my area now and I can get it for only 1500rs with a month free. Why the hell should I pay 5300rs for BSNL??

I thought, clearly informing customers about non payment of installation charges to 3rd parties is move in right direction. And things would work out like old days when bsnl was doing dataone installations, contractors or temporary employees were paid by bsnl and not customers. I thought they would start doing same thing. Dont know how much strength bsnl got to implement this policy.

I think serious issue, bsnl would be facing is, laying cables. As such a big company cant bypass municipal guidelines which private companies flaunt all the time. Thats why 3rd party contractors lay fiber cables through one terrace to another without any hesitation but bsnl cant do it. Its like elephant cant dance scenario...

Also the shoddy way 3rd parties are doing installations for bsnl fiber is horrifying. When that delicate cable will snap in pieces due to no-protection is anyone's guess.

Btw, if anyone gets installation free from bsnl (except ont charges), pl update the details, like ont charges, approx location of installation etc.

I already got ont now. AH contractor is not coming for installation at my place or even to collect the form, just because he realized after arguing with me for hours, that he cant milk me like any other customer.

When I got my connection more than 2 years ago my LCO just charged me full MRP of the basic ONT which was 3k and slyly said "no install charge saar"

Actually the ONT was available for 1.5k online at the time. I could have insisted on not taking it from him but instead felt it's better to be in his good books to get support from him when needed so didn't push it.

I did clearly tell him to his face what I thought though and that I expected him to be responsive to any support calls and so far not too much of complaint.

Yes,

I had talked with senior manager from bsnl exchange in Pune only. And according to him also, whatever charges were to be paid to contractor was only for ONT and there are no fees for installation etc. So ideally i thought i should get installation free as i already got ONT. But obviously manager is not going to do installation at my place and i doubt anyone from bsnl can force contractor to do installation either who is asking me 2k charges (without ont)

For me also contractor is pushing me to get ont and all by claiming they only provide support if anything goes wrong but WTH.... Also he claims, installation is free only but there are charges for wiring etc. I mean what kind of BS is this...

Btw, what model ont and fiber plan do you have? Do u use special highspeed dual band wifi router etc for better speeds on wifi?

I don't remember the ont model number but it is a basic ZTE chipset based single gigabit port epon without WiFi.

I use netgear r7000 earlier and now r8000 model router which has pretty good uptime.

Initially I was on the 100mbps plan 1277 but switched to the 300mbps fiber ultra 1499 plan when it launched back in October.

I forgot to mention something else, they take "refundable security deposit" but they may not refund the full amount. In my case they said I will get 40% and I don't know if they have even processed it. I stopped checking once I realized it was not worth it. I've written to the Manager and met him and his deputy. But nothing was done in this regard.

BTW do ISP's charge extra for the cables? If yes how much? The private ones are charging extra. My friend paid 7k for everything when he signed up.

Refundable deposit is fully refundable imo. But sad part is one may have to fight for it which is pathetic. You can try mailing to pg portal etc if u want.

Wiring charges for bb connection is pure bs. Contractor just want some random reason to suck money as I already got ont, nothing else. Everywhere installation includes wiring as well obviously. Without wiring how one would install bb connection?

That's why private cos offer free installation for long term plans. Which is completely understandable from cos pov and very much acceptable.

I've never paid for wiring for broadband installs. Even had Airtel put in a 100m wire for ADSL at no charge, in case I wanted to move the modem later lol.
In the past 6 months I've gotten 2 fiber installs, no charges for either (1 new connection, 1 upgrade from ADSL).

Damn it. They must be trying to make quick bucks for nothing. The trunk link provider doesn't want to get involved either. My guess is they made some kind of deals behind the scenes which allow these private companies to do whatever they like. I can't think of any other reason.

I have been using bsnl fiber net since it's available in Malleswaram Bangalore. All they took was some security deposit which is refundable during subscription termination. They installed a power supply unit and a gpon unit to convert the optical signal to electrical. I have been using my own router always. I hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing. How much did they charge? Was it done by BSNL themselves directly or a third-party contracted company.

BSNL have all FTTH work outsourced(like installation, maintenance). But customer support is through regular BSNL channel. Sorry, I don't recollect exact amount, but its about 2K INR, which I paid as security deposit.
