PiHole should be a must

Hey

I was thinking about your TE username that I might've interacted with you earlier at some point but actually forgot. If I've to avoid the Raspberry route, I can easily do this to my Mikrotik router using builtin scripting or using the API. You can do this to any almost any device if it does't bottleneck and puts any restriction on the entries.
Check out your Hangout Chats . PogoPlug was repaired by you in 2014

atm i have around 313,054 domains on my blocklists.

you may also try these porn blocklists as well ( if at all you are interested ;) ) good for homes with kids and young ones
https://github.com/chadmayfield/my-pihole-blocklists/blob/master/lists/pi_blocklist_porn_top1m.list

got them from the blocklists page by chadmayfield ( he seems to be having done quite a work )

this here is an interesting read if you are concerned about online privacy and security
Alos has a huge cache of pihole blocklists that are pretty aggressive

Running pihole successfully for the last 8-9 months on a RPI 4 1gb with stubby (DNS over TLS). The blocklists I’m using are below in case anyone wants. About ~1M

Guide for stubby https://filippobuletto.github.io/secure-dns/#

Also guys make sure you’re updating raspbian at least once a month

The blacklist project is frequently updated and is on GitHub https://github.com/blocklistproject/Lists

The pain of such lists is that many of them include CDN services that are used by some sites, specifically by many Indian websites as they are probably cheap and also used by spammers. So that is good to keep in mind if you suddenly find some sites behaving oddly as they need to be whitelisted after checking the logs.

Absolutely. Have to check pihole query log everytime a site misbehaves or doesn't load properly. This is definitely irritating for my wife. She is in marketing and some of the websites she uses are blocked accross most readymade lists.

The newer versions of pihole have fantastic list of features including per device or group of device blocklist, regrex based whitelist and blocklist. these go a long way in making life easy for the non tech savy folks in the house.

Pi hole almost killed Facebook on my network, be it site or android app. Even Headphonezone was shunted out. Had to lookup query logs, manually Whitelist them to get them to work again.

I would deem killing Facebook as a huge plus. The amount of queries to graph.facebook.com and graph.instagram.com is ridiculous. FB is desperate to track every website and app 24x7 on all devices.

I have been using entware scripts.
Adblock + skynet firewall + unbound dns on Asus ac88U with Merlin firmware.
Skynet firewall script is very useful. Blocks all those nonsense HTTPS/HTTP domains injected by BSNL.

Any guides on setting up unbound , Local DNS resolver looks good

After getting replacement of my memory card, yesterday I set it up with all lists from first page. These are stats of less than half a day !

Seems kinna overkill
This must be breaking a lot of sites.
BTW all should regularly run the
update and
full upgrade command

Even pi hole was recently updated so do try and regularly run updates
