Health & Fitness Corona is in full swing and its not Joke !

The burden of disease is not measured only by it's mortality, but by it's morbidity too.
The late stage sequelae of COVID are not fully understood. We are seeing blood disorders, stroke, neuro symptoms, skin issues, respiratory challenges, gastro intestinal issues post covid.
My wife had COVID, about 4 months back, and she hasn't regained her sense of taste and smell fully.
She smells foul odor from common things like potato, bread etc, and has affected her diet and health substantially.
As somebody who has seen covid closely, both in family and as a doctor, anybody who takes it lightly is just a burden at this point. I've seen multiple families being devastated due to COVID (my cousin sisters husband - an otherwise fit fellow - died due to COVID. A close friend has his uncle and aunt (in their 30s) , dying of COVID, leaving their small kids orphaned... many such examples).
@red dragon must have seen things much more closely than me, being in Italy and other places. Many of my colleagues working in govt hospitals like RML have seen multiple horror stories. One of them went into depression seeing how the pandemic is being handled since the ground reality is very different than what is shown.

Most of your frontline health workers would be frustrated.

There have been reporting changes as well due to which you're seeing low numbers. I think @red dragon mentioned it in one of his earlier posts. There is a definite under reporting.

COVID is not a joke, guys. It's not flu, it's not something you should take lightly. Easy to shove it as a "statistic", unless it happens to you or your family.

Anyway, I'm out of this thread. Depressing to see such responses.

Please don't quote or tag me in this thread.

No one's calling it a joke but it's not what it's being made out to be either.
Sorry to hear about your wife but what the media doesn't report is that cases do not mean hospitalizations, that leads to unnecessary fear mongering.
I've had 4 family members test positive as well, 2 of whom lost their sense of taste & smell but regained it soon enough and did nothing but self isolate, the other two didn't even know they had it.

Two of my friends tested positive too and all they had to do was lie down in their pyjamas at home for 15 days. I live in a colony of over 1200 people, there were only 2 casualties and in both cases they were 70+ year olds suffering from other illnesses. Not to mention the dozens of cases of false positives itself.
One of my friend's father was given Remdesivir, which turns out isn't even effective according to the WHO, yet hospitals all over continue to administer to rip people off.
Not even getting into the constant flip-flops and contradictions by "experts" and the 800 bed empty facility at the Mumbai race course while no. of cases were at its peak. A lot of bigwigs made money big time and the same thing is happening with the pharmaceutical industry as always.

I agree this is not a topic worth discussing because there are varying subjective experiences and anecdotal stories that just lead to conflicting conclusions.

My point was - there could be under reporting of number of infections / cases due to incompetence and/or political motivations. But its unlikely the government is involved in a organized cover up of massive number of deaths. Peace out.

1. I didn't say covering up massive number of deaths, I said manipulating the Cause of Death. Forget Covid for a moment, haven't we all seen people dying due to deficiency of service in reckless hospitals? Multiple Organ Failure, they all give the same reason behind deaths. That's what I'm saying, one could die from Corona but patient party won't be aware of the same, because it's been made to look like to them that it's a normal death. That was my point. Hope I'm wrong.

2. I didn't know that having better hygiene means worse immunity, thanks for that info. I guess there's a point of living like savages after all then eh? Lol.

3. I have no clue how dangerous Covid really is. There are 2 types of people, 1. one who has contracted it, and recovered, but either still feeling like crap even after weeks, or, totally fit and goes on saying it's nothing as it's made out to be (both are right, right?), and 2. People like us, who just think/ assume what is going on by reading stories from multiple sources.

I only know one thing for definite, people. And the current one at govt. are worse than barbaric animals. So nothing is out of their reach, no matter the extent of misdeed.

The opinion is personal and no need to take personally.

@alekhkhanna , yes buddy, distance yourself from covid threads.
No point in discussing about it anymore. It almost destroyed me..mentally and emotionally...still have occassional nightmares.

What I have heard is they are deliberately tagging normal patients as covid infected by manipulating reports etc. just to rob money both from patients as well as govt. Its a huge scam in India.
Have heard it from politician friends and many biggies in my vicinity. In fact patients are being killed- murdered will be the best word to be used, to get those extra sums and contribute to something in the rankings..

So if in current situation a healthy person gets admitted for xyz diseases or even surgery which has no relation to covid, they play it so safe and natural that his family will believe it and pay more sum while he gets killed and they get some more from the govt. in the name of covid.

Yes this is insider news and unfortunately true!

Now if reading above, if you all get sleepless fearful nights just be lucky you arent one of those to be slaughtered...

the situation out there is truly difficult, few days back just saw Maharashtra government said that they would be closing the temporary covid centre as cases are comming down ,my question is why , some of the centers were very well done . i would rather say you should partially keep it open and the remaining part start vaccinating the people over there as everything is setup. Start vaccinating people who are staying around that center sand move ahead with remaining people of town city ,and make it scheduled just how the passport seva kendra happens ,use aadhar your basis for that.

Or a better option would be using now closed school/colleges as your vaccination centers just the way elections are held

there were some rumors that it was done to even get the healthy persons organs for black marketing

This has been going on for months, people suffering from other ailments have avoided visiting hospitals for treatment for this very reason.

There are two other recent incidences in my case, two weeks ago a moneylender and his goons roughed up an individual pretty badly near my house because he didn't repay his debt, he succumbed due to his injuries in the hospital a few days later but the moneylender apparently pulled strings and managed to get him labelled as a covid casualty, a huge mob had gathered at the nearby police station as a result.
Also my house help's neighbor choked on a peanut and died and the local hospital labelled her as a covid casualty and refused to release her body, her relatives had to involve a local politician to get the issue sorted.

It is cases like these that has led to total public carelessness, corona may or may not be a serious threat but the extent to which people will go to benefit themselves in this country is appalling.

Here's another flip flop from experts from just today, after 12 months the FDA is now saying that the RT-PCR test may not be accurate after all.

Ideally speaking
Rt pcr is just to see whether virus is present or not in your oral/nasal cavity.
Ct scan is positive in late stage when lung infiltrates start and saturation drops below 99
Their are other blood markers which can give clear cut idea.

I have managed my own covid twice and my father's covid Itself I managed in my own hospital. Not to mention , 600+ covids managed on opd basis and 400+ indoor hospitalised.

Major cause of mortality was fungal septicemia.

Those who came late after 8-10 days of symptoms were lost cases.
Just to give you one aspect,I treated senior surgeon's father in law with hrct CORAD score of 23 who got discharged with score of 12 on day 13 of admission.

the symptoms are very overlapping ,my father had more or less all the the same symptoms of covid but it was Empyema ,and this happened when covid was at its peak

Each person is unique and each disease of covid is different so we have to personalise the care accordingly.
Majority of my patients had unique set of symptoms.one chap mimicked malaria but it was covid and nothing else.
Remdesivir was enforced upon by you all know who is that guy.
It doesn't change a single thing in covid infection.
What changes the course of covid is treating the allergic reaction and managing the dic of covid.

And amongst my staff, we needed just one tocilizumab when chap developed pancreatitis along with covid. He is doing well now 4 months post covid.

With covid there's no such thing as experts. We still know nothing about this virus, yet we've developed vaccines and made it mandatory...I had terrible headache for a day after receiving the first shot..it was so SEVERE, thought I am having SAH!! It's ok for us, but imagine this kind of splitting headache to an elderly person!!
It subsided after 8 grams of acetaminophen.
My wife is still having fever and myalgia ( from Saturday morning)
I really attacked my colleagues who have already received 2 doses of the vaccine, ALL OF THEM had these symptoms.
2 of them didn't even take the 2nd dose (they received it on papers, 2nd dose being NS solution...we know the people giving us the shots...so no problem with the paperwork)
We've decided to skip the 2nd dose....our kid is just 5 and needs his parents (at least one) alive.

Saturation drops below 99!! WTF!!! I'm a heavy smoker, my O2 sat never goes above 97-98..what the hell are you talking about??
There's no blood test to confirm covid.. everything related to antibodies are non specific, everything else ( ferritin, interleukin etc.) are for cytokine storm.
CT scan is just a very crude screening test for ARDS.
You again overdosed on acetaminophen. You should not go beyond 4gm if you love your liver.
I'm very much aware of that.

With all due respect to you dragon, how many cases you have managed? Smokers are altogether different entity.unless you have heavily screwed your lungs.

we Indian doctors have managed covid far better than western counterparts and our mortality figures speak for self.

so if both of you are doctors ,than i have a question how are our doctors or in general our medical diagnosis different ,are western & European m report and test oriented and indian medicine practice is thorough physical checks symptoms etc or its vice versa

Good for you man..I'm sincerely happy for you.

Good for you man, I'm sincerely happy for you. I don't really know how many I actually saw. Was in the busiest hospital in Madrid during the worst time...but I do remember each and every person we couldn't help...we really tried..ECMO..even plasmapheresis ( as there was no proper protocol back then)
LaPaz had about 30 ER beds, they managed to open another ER with 26 beds. So total was 56, we never had a vacant bed for more than 4 weeks. Since the covid critical care units were always full we could rarely transfer patients from ER ( ICU patients were mostly direct admissions from GPs)
