So, called SP Road again today. Galax RTX 3600 12GB model costs 55k (+tax). Still atrocious pricing. The good thing though is that there is consistent stock availability here, unlike a month ago when they would plainly say 'no stock at all'. Or would quote a lot more than 60k (without tax). Given that not many are buying these RTX cards at these prices now, I believe GPU-related issues will slowly get sorted out in India at least from the month of May when the stock is not moving from shelves as fast as they wanted.

I think there will be an influx of a lot of used cards in the market thanks to the implementation of EIP 1559 in eth network which will reduce profits of mining by 60-80% for eth at least. No other coin is even close to the profitability of eth, and even with the implementation of MEV the profits will still see a sharp decrease. So that means that most miners would stop buying GPUs soon, I assume by May or June since by then they wouldn't able to recover even the cost of the card. So hold out till May-June, and keep looking for deals on used as well as new cards till then. Good luck!

My worry is the price of ETH may go up post this and it will continue to be profitable to mine.

Mining was not the reason for state of gpu stock. It only contributed to this a bit. There was huge surge in gaming PC demand during covid time. Nvidia was struggling to meet demand and on top of this OEMs saw opportunity to sell overpriced cards and clear stock of other peripherals.
This caused huge demand and scalpers started using bots to buy tye stock and sell it for profit.

The current situation does not warrant 2x or 3x retail pricing. Remember, a 3060 is sold for 65k by retail channels, not by scalpers. This card is supposed to cost less than 40k. A 3060Ti FE costs 37k and that one is nowhere to be seen.

I would blame the scalpers, OEMs and distributors for this situation.

Agreed, but I think every little bit helps in such a shortage. And even if the stock doesn't improve by much there would be a lot of used cards on the market for sure, which would in turn drive down the prices of new cards. I see this as a win win in either case.

That's a possibility but unless eth's price rises by as much as the mining profit drops, that wouldn't be the case. And the probability of eth being about 2x of what it is currently is quite unlikely since there's a lot of competition in the crypto space rn, and there are several great alternatives to eth who have made their mark. Several enterprises have already moved their networks from eth to others like Ada and algo, so I'm not too worried about that.

I have a strong feeling thats what we are going to see for ETH. prices will compensate the miners.

Shortage of silicon chips too..

I cannot imagine how that's going to help lol.
I just want something which lets me stream and play smoothly at 1080p. I'm not even after the latest models. But had the prices of the latest ones been good then owners of the old gen would be more happy to sell their cards and then guys like me can take them. People who play in the highest settings and resolutions possible will have little to no problem procuring the latest gen cards since going for anything less will only be counter-productive to them in my opinion. But thanks to these atrocious pricing the plebs like us suffer the most lol.

No matter what the reason is it's better to leave gaming entirely than buying gpus at these atrocious prices.
Or just stick to whatever you already have till it's all settled..
Like in my case will continue to use the 2060 which I have since more than a few years now
Have plans to upgrade to a 3070 when they are available at logical prices in future

Also lately there have been a lot of chatter on the NVIDIA subs on Reddit and some tech sites about improper application of thermal pads on the FE cards. Another thing for us to worry about here. A lot of people who have managed to get their hands on the 3080 and the 3090 have posted about removing the badly applied thermal pads on the FE and replacing them, giving them a drop of almost 20 degrees in temp while gaming.

With our temperatures and weather .... i foresee a few cards dying due to the heat....

Anyone else hearing about these problems with the 3000 series ?

I think those threads are mostly created by people mining on these cards. The problem is present in gaming as well, specially at high framerates, but not to the same extent as people usually don't game 24x7 & the workload also keeps varying in games so it is unlikely to create a problem in the life span of a GPU. The GDDR6X modules used in these cards reach around 105 degrees after which performance starts degrading but there are no reports suggesting this impacting any actual gameplay performance or any hardware failures for that matter.

The manufactures don't really care about the best thermal performance & usually pick components which are just able to perform within specifications. This is pathetic specially when you are charging $800 - $1500 for these top of the line GPUs & are skimping on these parts just to save couple of bucks. Unfortunately the 3rd party manufactures are no better either.

Majority of these people are modding these cards just to stay stable while mining as the chances of getting a replacement is also very difficult at this time. I don't remember where I read this, but some people are reporting that manufacturers are simply offering refunds in case of hardware issues as there are no replacement parts available. In fact Nvidia customer support is also saying to go ahead with replacing these thermal pads without any impact on warranty.

I am happy that I jumped the gun and got the card when it was available. Things are really sh!tying at the moment. For of gtx1650s are made then that of any other cards by vendors as nvidia is forcing them to do this stuff as per report.

Well, these cards are far too new to have any reports of hardware failures due to the overheating problem. I am pretty sure that in the next few years we will have a few such cards conking off. Also, not too sure how people in countries such as India will handle the replacement of Thermal Pads on a personal level. Hopefully I am wrong.

Completely agree with this though, Its criminal that companies are cutting corners on such basic things. But the sarcastic side of me says, better these small things than cutting corners on the more important stuff.

Agreed, this could end up happening as the years go by. Hopefully by that time we'll have more inventory for replacements.

Most of us are not even aware of this stuff let alone doing it on our own. Even if one is able to replace this themselves, there is absolutely no guarantee that our service center guys will even honor the warranty after doing this replacement.

Unlike US, we don't have a right to repair statute. You open the card and you can say tata bye bye to any warranty. Not worth doing this in the indian context. If you are worried, use an AC with the lowest temperature set when gaming.
