Budget 0-20k Fara R1 vs Lian Li 215x?

xkcd0137

Adept
Ideally, I wanted to get a used Lian Li 215x for ₹3500 or less but if only wishes came true. Regarding matter at hand, both cases have good air flow and temps and are focused towards function than form (to an extent).

I have already ordered a white Fara R1 for ₹3700 thanks to @sanjeevram and it should get delivered by Monday but it comes with just a single rear fan. In excitement of building my first pc, I had already bought 3 Deepcool RF120 fans for ₹1300, so I can use them at front of R1. The whole setup is costing me ₹5000 with fans. This got me thinking in the evening and..

..I also like (or rather love) the look of Lian Li 215x :D. And according to gamers nexus, 215x seems to have a slight upper hand at airflow and temps. Interestingly, I had ordered 215x two months back for ₹5500 but had to reject delivery as I didn't have any other component (especially had lost hopes of getting a gpu) at that time. After I got gpu, 215x's price increased to ₹6500+ which is way beyond my budget.

So, should I go with Fara R1 rn or should I wait for some sale or price drop to get 215x instead? In case of latter, I'll have to bear some loss on those impulse purchase of RF120s which are lying unused since I bought them. :disrelieved:

There are also some reddit posts mentioning not so great QC of 215x but I don't expect Fara R1 to be any better either. Correct me if I am wrong.

Bruh, how much patience do you have? Are you running everything in your old case or do you have an open setup going on now?

Let me give this a shot:
You can always try selling your fans here.
I'd personally not bother about the QC of 2 budget cases.
Compare the 2 cases features-wise and consider future compatibility. And also the looks - this is important to me (among thermals and features) and looks like your heart's set on Lian Li.
I don't know how good those Deepcool fans are, but with any decent aftermarket fan Fara's temps will improve. It won't be as good as Lian Li's but will come close to 215's stock performance - depending on the fan. If your ambient temperature is low, don't have to worry about this.
And how long are you willing to wait for the price to drop?

Do wait for others' take on this.

Yeah, I asked my query because of this only. Feature wise both offer 2 USB 3.0 ports and seem to be similar on other front but I don't have any idea about future upgradability.

If 215x is a much better deal, then I can wait.. otherwise, not at all.
and looks like your heart's set on Lian Li.
Come to think of it, I got motivated to build a PC only after I saw a video of 215x. :D
If your ambient temperature is low
Ambient temp is a bit high and its dusty too, thats the reason I am a bit uncomfortable with open setup or would've waited till diwali for sale on 215x.

Isn't 215x available at 5850 on Amazon right now?
Bought a Fractal Meshify 2 case from Amazon and it went absolutely fine. Local dealers were quoting a much higher price.

@xkcd0137 I guess you're only looking for mesh airflow with cooling and better usable features like USB 3.0x2 .
Here's another option i.e. cougar MX410 - Mesh G argb for Rs. 4545 @ mdcomputers, do check it.
I am also considering Fara R1 or this one for myself but still looking for even smaller form factor, I may switch to mini itx if somethings appealing to me.
there's two more options to look for , both mesh and about same price - montech x2 and antec nx410 (but these 've only 1 usb 3 port)

@napstersquest thanks for this pcpricetracker site it's something new for me.

NR200P would be your best bet. So great value considering it costs way less than other SFX cases. Includes riser, option for mesh/glass panel (both are provided in the NR200P)
It can fit a small mATX motherboard (as long as they are 244mm x 226mm - see this) and ATX PSU as well.

I know it's very popular but I don't 've a SFX PSU and don't wanna use those custom brackets.
I am looking to shift my ATX Motherboard with Ryzen 1600 and ATX PSU to a Small form factor airy mesh type cabinet for some light gaming.
or thinking of swapping this full atx motherboard to mini itx motherboard and a small itx cabinet. (confused as it's not the best option to invest in new mini itx board for old ryzen 1600).
So my best bet is to use this old setup with some small cabinet that supports ATX. I can order cougar MX410 - Mesh G but only thing restricting me is I can't use my 140mm fans, other option left is fara r1 which I didn't like very much.

How does this look? My first pc build. :D

I am not observing any improvement in cpu/gpu temps from my open setup I was running since past month. Also, there is a scratch on the tempered glass, should I ignore it or its a serious concern?

Any suggestions on cable management?

@TheCoolerPlayer can you recommend ram oc timings for this rev.e 3600mhz cl16 rams? Best I have been able to manage is 3600mhz cl15 till now.

That's fantastic actually, since cases usually lead to higher Temps. My GPU temps increased by 6-8c after moving from open bench to matx Silverstone PS15 Pro.

Tbh I wouldn't bother with getting perfectly fine tuned RAM, unless you really enjoy overclocking (= spending hours and hours to get that last 2-3% gain). 3600CL15 and 3600CL14 wouldn't have much performance difference. Just ensure you're running your RAM in 1T mode, and that your infinity fabric is synced to ram speed (at 1800mhz). Happy gaming, and congrats on the beautiful build!

Lol.. and I thought I would see some improvement in temps after moving to a case.

I couldn't find infinity fabric, fclk or option to change dram frequency in Gigabyte's bios. I'll try searching on google.

I found a post on reddit running 3800cl14. I tried those settings with 3600 dram (stupid me :p) but the system didn't boot with those settings.. but I still want to achieve tighter timings. Back to reddit ig..

That's a nice compact build!
Am I seeing a tiny bit of GPU sag?
Regarding the scratch, as long as there's warranty and if its small/not visible I wouldn't bother... till it (if at all) shatters one day. Check if you can RMA the glass alone if it's not too much hassle.

Yeah, surprisingly the ATX mobo was a tight fit.
Am I seeing a tiny bit of GPU sag?
Can't tell.. but yeah I had to lift gpu (slightly) on left side to fit the screw properly.

Okay.

See if there's an option to change uclck:memclck ratio
Bios looks like this - https://www.techpowerup.com/review/gigabyte-b550-aorus-pro/5.html

Edit - Just noticed that 1 front USB 3.0 port on case isn't working. FML! What is with me and defective PC components.. mann!!

Both FCLK and UCLK were hidden under AMD CBS -> NBIO Common Settings-> XFR Enhancement.

Who designs these bioses. Heh.
