Is Windows Defender enough?

Anti virus is the virus! I never recommend them. Just setup browser with ublock and router with pihole and nothing slips through. Use ff instead of chrome or edge. Finally you can’t uninstall defender so it just lives.
Ps: I haven’t had an anti virus over forever. Worst case scenario i run autoruns from sysinternals.

This! I never used any AV, atleast for that purpose. But I used to use Comodo Internet Security for its firewall. Now I run just without any AV, I disable defender too.
If You know what exactly are You doing, then you actually don't need any AV or malware protection. Any how if I get any malware on my PC, I just run Autoruns and Process Explorer which takes care of it.

Agree with most of what you said.

Sometimes I have to copy docs to a pen drive and take printouts now and then from outside shops. That’s when there is some random virus in the drive, most of the times. How can we handle such situation without AV?

1. Disable autorun in your windows.
2. After getting PD back, search '*.exe' and delete all the exe you see in the search.
3. In case the exe is important then scan it on virustotal website.

As everyone has mentioned using a bit of caution will save you from 80% of trouble.
But I would still recommend keeping defender on. It has got way better now and doesn't consume many system resources and can help with sketchy external storage situations.

Yesterday mom sent me her phone saying she won a lottery on whatsapp and I was like, Yes... Ofc Yes. Good thing she did was to send me her phone without doing anything with the WA chat link. I saw her talking about it this morning with friends and they seems happy about it hahahaahah

Btw, all of you are discussing about Windows Defender in general right? It's not like you are talking about Windows Defender specifically installed in W11 or W10? Obviously there are new features in W11 version.

I've got an old laptop which can't run too many resources ( extra AV along with Defender), so I'm hoping Defender is enough for it, based on this thread.

I guess there will be some differences in features but it's good from windows 7 and up.

For example, on windows 10, it has an option to restrict access to select folders. I have enabled it on the chrome's folder. Without this protection, any application running on your computer can easily read your saved passwords and browsing history.
