I have Altec Lansing 251(45watts rms model) and there isn't much distortion at 75%. Infact I find these speakers give their best only in the 70-90% range, after that you will find some(not mcuh) distortion, or your ears are too sensitive.

I would say wait for an el cheapo card if you don't game. In the meanwhile use a geforce 7600gs(at most) for a couple of months.

Assuming that playing most of todays games at best possible performance in this budget is what is most important to you. I would go with the above rig but with a Radeon X1950Pro, if required reduce the CPU to E4300, a combo drive, 160GB Seagate 160GB HDD, cheaper board.

how cpu, gpu and ram intensive is it?

I am really happy that they didn't make Carbon GPU intensive, though the did make it quite CPU intensive. One thing which should be appreciated it that Carbon runs with decent FPS on high clocked single cores, gives even better performance on dual cores and can use a Core 2 Duo for even better...

The power is not enough.

If you wanna heavily overclock the card then a 7900GT will bash anything except a Radeon 1900xt or Geforce 7900GTX or maybe Radeon 1800XT(+). However if you plan to be at stock, then overall the best performance will be of the 1950Pro which will beat a 7900GS(7800GT level) and compete/beat...
