Confused between iPhone 15 vs S23

Sounds like all you friend needs is a long lasting phone. Either will do in that regard. iPhone 15 over S23 any day, on the basis of software, reliability, camera. S23 will have better battery, maybe better display as well. Both are ridiculously overpriced for what they offer.

Don't have either phones. Opinion based on numerous reviews on the internet, and on the basis of past experience with both companies.
For price your words are baseless on amazon anytime you see s23 sells for 51-52k while iphone 15 is 70k difference is huge. For experiencing apple it's good but processor is old because only pro versions have newer processor while in android all have new processors.

Wife has iPhone 13 and I have 15 pro max. Both are absolutely snappy. Do not bring Android kind of processor comparison into Apple products.

Coming to pricing, S23 was available under 40k in recent sales and for that price, it is absolute steal.

This may sound like weird advise but if longevity is the prime factor go for iPhone. Those things are built to last. I am still using iphone 6 as my main phone. And only thing it ever needed was a battery transplant. Banking apps have given up on it, the world has moved on but still that thing serves me with pride. I use both, but never an android phone could last me 3+ years.

I think 6's were a Steve jobs era iphone. Not 100% sure about the newer ones. But if they did not screw the pooch altogether on the base engineering, iphone should still last a long time.

Just speaking from personal experience.

Any electronic device - if taken good care of - will have multiple years of longevity. Such a concept isn't exclusive to Apple devices.

All my previous smartphones are in perfectly workable condition - the Nokia 5233 from 2011, the Nokia Lumia 630 from 2015, or the Samsung J2 Pro from 2016. The Lumia can even play most of its pre-installed games properly, case in point, Halo Spartan Assault or Hitman GO. Even my 2009 desktop loaded with Windows 7 runs perfectly fine for watching movies and playing music.

The thing is most people are not careful with the tech they use, hence they side-step anything but "Apple" as fragile or non-lasting.

I have a iphone 6s from 2015 in use from day 1 (used by multiple family members), battery replaced 4 times, still everything working, the thing refuses to die, all original parts. Speaker, microphone and earpiece and changing jack cleaned multiple times over the years.

Whatsapp, instagram and stuff works fine still getting updated, banking apps stopped working recently, but UPI still works.

I feel the newer iPhones are not that reliable anymore, marginally due to the new technologies, the oled screen the stacked PCB and many more things are very delicate in nature. User has to be extremely careful.

S7: still working (from 2018)
Oneplus 8: still working (from 2021)
iPhone 13: still working.

These flagship products last really long. Take good care and they last long, really long. Ting tong.
