For some of us, working long hours was the only way out of poverty, I didn't have much to start with but was willing to outwork everyone who was competing with me. These kinds of legislations have unintended consequences.
The whole story sounds odd (tries hard to evoke an emotional response, the Frost quote sounds so out of place). 26 year old's body can take a lot of abuse. Did she have any preexisting conditions?
Hmm. My understanding was that both the Chinese and the Japanese did pretty long hours (996 and karoshi).I have worked with MNC's all my life and not a single person outside of India will put up with this.
