Help with JioFiber and Wi-Fi coverage optimization.

Hey guys,

I’m quite a noob to anything related to networks and routers, so I’m hoping you can help me out.
I have a JioFiber connection in my apartment, and the current setup was recommended by the technician who installed it.

Setup:
Initially, we couldn’t place the router near the Jio Set-Top Box (JioSTB) used for the TV (which seems to be the standard setup the technician does), as this setup severely weakened the Wi-Fi signal in the bedrooms. To solve this, the technician mounted the router opposite the kitchen, near a corridor leading to the bedrooms & opted for running the JioSTB on Wi-Fi (which works fine.)

Current Issue:
This worked fine until recently. Now, we’ve started using more portable devices in the bedroom farthest away from the router, where the Wi-Fi signal is pretty weak—especially when the doors are closed. The connection is okayish but inconsistent, which I would like to improve along with any improvement of signal strength in the office if possible. Extending the fiber line and having wired devices anywhere else might not be possible so I am seeking to specifically improve the Wi-Fi, however, I am open to changing the main router placement anywhere in the living and kitchen areas.

My Equipment:
  • Main Router: JioFiber Standard
  • Wi-Fi Adapter (in office PC/media server): TP-Link Archer T3U Plus AC1300 USB
Looking for Advice On:

  1. Improving Wi-Fi coverage in both bedrooms.
  2. Recommendations for a better main router & Wi-Fi adapter for the office PC to ensure a more stable connection, especially since it also serves as a media server.
To give you a better idea of my layout, I’ve made a totally professional floor plan on Canva that roughly shows the current setup.

the way I worked around it since our walls were way too thick and the Jio ONT beyond crap was to splurge on a router if you have the budget. it solved all of our issues with WiFi. since you cant lay out ethernet, that is the best option for you, according to the floor plan given, the ONT is at the best position possible, any other place and the signals would detoriate because of close walls.

others can chime in with better router models but I went with this model (https://www.amazon.in/D-Link-DIR-2640-Internet-Compatible-Assistant/dp/B08R1FR1X5) and this one essentially doubled if not tripled our wifi range, though the main reason I went with this one wasnt the wifi range.

I am definitely open to upgrading my router as that seems to be the most hassle free solution to the problem. Although I don't have a specific decided budget to spend on the router, I would like to explore some other options in the similar range to the one (linked) as well.

yeah, I'm not well versed with routers at all, only reason I even got mine was because at the time it was one of the cheapest routers on the market with a MT7621AT chip and support for AFE and hardware accelerated NAT, both of which you most definitely dont need for your current setup

@john1911 Nothing too major, around ₹5k in total for both the supposed upgrades, the main router and the Wi-Fi adapter if there is one better. Can go a little higher if needed to.

I'm using Deco M4 3pack, primary deco is connected via wire to the main Jio Router and is kept beside the Jio Router. I have disabled wifi on Jio Router and am using wifi of Deco M4.

The two Deco M4 are wireless and kept in bedroom and living room (connected to TV wia Ethernet).

The M4 3 pack is available for ~7k on Flipkart.

What you can do is keep one beside the Jio Router and connect it with wire, another one you can keep in the bedroom near door. Third one you can keep with the office PC and connect the PC with ethernet to the Deco. This Deco will connect to the main Deco wirelessly and then connect to your PC wia Ethernet.
.

You can get 2 pack also and see if it works. You can add the third one later if needed. 2 pack will cost you 4500-5000.
