You can't save money on Customs unless the Retail box package is ripped off in US before shipping. Still i'm not sure if it'll help you save custom fees. If customs dept charge a nominal fee, then nothing could stop us buying from abroad.

OCZ is much better in performance than GT series, OCZ maintain same performace for compressed and non-compressed data, they even have good confidence in their controllers which is why you can see 5 yrs warranty instead of 3 yrs. Going for OCZ seems a good choice to me.
