Thermos water bottle with good heat retention?

So i am looking for something that can keep water decently hot after say 8-10 hours at say 75% full ( 1L ). Should be sturdy enough too, so dont want glass thermos.

I have been using this milton one. First time i think it was good but i gave it to family member probably. Few years later, i bought a dud from cloudtail. Stupid thing keeps water hot for barely an hour or two atmost and it becomes luke warm. No idea if its a fake or there is qc issue. This was bought many years back.

Now looking to buy something better if available. But its hard to make anything out of reviews. Plenety of 4+ rated bottles have comments of bad heat retention and it shows up in summary tags too.

Any recommendations ?

The style I am linking is the best for heat retention. The one you linked isn’t. If you don’t open the bottle, then it will be hot in the morning even after a cold winter night.

Thermos. Tried and test below - 26 Celsius.

Expensive but totally worth it. Fully worth it. Life saver for me. I will put it that High.

Absolutely best value for money.

One more thing you can do is what I do. You can get neoprene Bottle sleeves. they act as another sleeve for such thermos and vaccum bottles. So adding another layer of say 1 hr or so to keep it warm( Depends on the quality)

Now as to you bought a dud and it keeps warm only for an hour or so.
Then most probably you must have also dropped it or during shipping it got mishandled badly . Resulting in fractures inside the vaccum . even a short drop is enough to cause that making the bottle dud.

That is why these things need to tested often after every drop to see if you have not damage the internals.

Third and last point…that you can do to enhance the warmth is put some 200 ml or so of hot water first in 1 litre of vaccum bottle and let the inside heat up well . Then throw that water or use it for something and then add full litre of its capacity.

And if you find Thermos too expnsive for your need. You can also opt for the local Ladakhi and Himachal mountain area thermoses called Ladakhi Dragon THermos ( search it on net) . That I have seen working wonders too and they are amazing also. But heavy and big.

For thermos or any vaccum bottles always try to go for one that has caps sealing it all the way inside and when you need it just opening a little is enough because opening the entire cap will mean loosing all the trap heat.

Hope this helps. Trust me on thermos bro. I have used many brands around the world. Even the Japanese famous one Zojirushi .
But in the end . Ended up buying Thermos only. I had put hot water at 7 am in the morning at -12C and in the evening at -19C I opened it around 5.30 pm and it was still very hot.

However, I must say I am using MIlton for normal day to day the one posted by Codwapeace and it is decent for its price. Keeps my water hot easily for 3-4 hours in cold of Himachal but Honestly only decent for price. WOnt take it anywhere for serious cold conditions when I need my water hot for atleast 8-9 hours.

the ones I am using is this

and this

and this My most favourite. Light and amazing quality.

Lots of good points, thanks

Any Indian online retailer that sells these ? I had a small bottle from Blackberry once, not sure who they bought from, but it was very very good.

My room temp is more than 26-28 worst case in winters here in Mumbai. I just find that drinking hot water at night and morning helps alleviate asthma for me ( Have Air purifier etc too)

So it shouldn’t be too hard for even the one i bought to work. I guess its damaged as you say, since the previous one that i bought is still working good ( but i don’t have it.)

Family member also has the bottle that codwapeace linked, will ask how it works and try it first. Else the two you mentioned if available to order. I did not know thermos was a brand !, its like xerox

Yes . Thermos is a brand . Even some Indian companies had used the Thermos name and selling their own product so be careful with original and fake brand too .

I dont think any Indian retailed is selling it without adding the extra fees.

For your need I really dont see why spent so much unless someone is coming from abroad can get it for you.

Beside Milton is really more than enough for that 26-28 C weather. I mean spenting Rs 3k-5k for that temperature is completely waste of money.

I have seen Miltons going on sale for Rs 400-700 .

All you need is good quality Milton one which comes without any damage and you should be good to go.

I have this and totally worth!

I also have one fancy one but it barely keep the water hot for a few hrs.

Thermos, Zojirushi & Tiger are good ones you can get. They really keep your drinks the way you like. I have all three for decades and they work really well. Glass vacumn ones from Tiger are atleast 3 decades old.

However they are costly and are not easily available in India. Got them from MY/SG and USA.

Also be aware that some models have inner lining of Non-Stick coating so that you can clean cofee/Tea easily and also remove odor.

Was in local Tibetan market today .
Prices for 1.6 liter and above is around 2k and above.

They also have 3 L.

Took some pics of Dragon Thermos.

Just sharing incase someone is travelling in future to Ladakh and Himachal.

I have seen locals using this since decades.

They are very happy with it.

These guys could try to expand to rest of india and give milton some competition ! Esp other north Indian states atleast.

I bought the milton one, will test it tonight. They do have a 10 day return window. Last time i think i did not really check, did not think it could have issues.

Bought this from Decathlon in 2021. Keeps water warm for days during winter and cold during summer. No complaints yet. Unfortunately, it seems to be discontinued, but I’m sure they would have a newer model.

Time it up well.
Check the time you put in boiling hot water and then check the water after 8 hrs atleast to see.

Also try to clean it first with mild vinegar or lemon water and rinse it well then let it dry a bit before testing.. These industrial mass produce things should not be used right away.

Cleaned it with soap and bottle cleaner already and left it to dry.

I don’t use boiling water though. I fill it up with drinkable hot water, not sure about temp, drink maybe 10-15% of it, maybe less, and then i am hoping that it will be reasonably hot after 7-8 hours of sleep. Lets see ..

My father keeps it slightly hotter than drinkable, but doesnt boil and doesnt drink, and then drinks it the next day. Same bottle smaller size and what he kept yesterday night is still reasonably hot right now. That will do for me.

Avoid cleaning it with Soap and use lemon or food grade vinegar . Thats my advice.

Maybe you are using the utensil cleaning soap . However, for bottles and hydrations packs I only use Vinegar or Lemon drops in mild warm water.

This is the premium stuff. Something called double walled, vacuum insulated, don’t exactly know what it is.

But most importantly what you should be looking for

I have this in 1.5L, we bought it purely for 304 grade steel, the brands which don’t mention 304 are definitely not using 304 steel.

I checked there is no coating on the inside.

But we don’t put extremely hot water in it. Maybe just slightly warm.

Our main concern is the plastic in the bottle cap. Extremely hot stuff and plastic don’t go together.

Yeah they are all generally the same. Milton one also has the same thing, but doesnt mention plastic quality in sale page. But they do mention the same here

I dont use boiling hot water either. Did not think about the plastic, its used to keep it leak proof.

I have never had any deformity with it, but dunno if it leaks tiny stuff.

Leakage is not a problem in any of the bottles these days, due to the use of rubber seal.

yeah then why do they use plastic at all ? Assuming rubber is safer than plastic. No idea about all this. Plastic is food grade, hopefully will be fine with slightly hot water.

Most likely cost, because plastic threads are cheaper to make. On all bottles with screw type caps they are always plastic.

For me its all the same. Rubber is very important for bottles, we can’t make them air tight without rubber.

Even if it’s not, there is no alternative anyway. All we can do is keep the temps low.

No idea how it is, but this one seems to be all steel, no plastic and i think no rubber.

Nice find, when I was looking for it there was no such thing in Indian market.

There is on the inside cap, but that is acceptable.

Go for this one.
