Image editing and 1920x? Really?

I would plump for the 30" displays - the 3 additional inches isn't much, but it's twice as many pixels. Makes a lot of sense for larger images and renders. Or a second monitor side by side :)

Also, why a mainstream/enthusiast CPU and (therefore) motherboard? Two Xeons and an Intel workstation board is the way I'd look, with one CPU for now and another one added in later.

And the power supply :) A Corsair supply, 700 watts or so, should be a much better bet.

@cranky

30" monitor as well as xeons are sounding definitely nice and im planning on having 2 monitors (23" though) but today a new unforeseen problem came up and im not sure how to tackle that...
Unfortunately i totally overestimated the market for those parts in Mumbai and after talking to several retailer (Lamington Road) most of the parts are not available here... :(

Looking forward for your input and sorry for the long post @.@

Intel is the way to go. I would not suggest AMD for this kind of setup.

YOu have to choose either you want to play games or do serious work. As i will only suggest Quadro FX for professional use.

Couple of points as u are new to Indian Scenario.

Avoid Asus products in India as they have poor After Sales Service.

For motherboards consider Gigabyte/MSI and for GPU's Sapphire/MSI.

i wouldn't say that ASUS has pathetic service as i called them on their toll free no., registered my complaint regarding my Crosshair II Motherboard (it was Faulty LCD Poster),but on that day i didn't got any reply.

so,i mailed them the next day & they took around 10 days & they sent me a New LCD Poster.

they didn't even ask for the old one but best of all i was able to RMA it from my home town which is just great.

do remember to tell them about their latest ELITE service as they think that most of the customers don't even know about that.. :p

Some ppl say that i7s are faster in video rendering than AMD,im not sure, but the x6 is a good choice, everything looks good but just one thing,i would changed the mobo to gigabyte 890gx ,ive have bad experience with MSI.

Hey guys thanks for all the information about the local brands and service-status!

@MrRIG & kippu

Thanks i will read up the links you sent me :)

This system is for semi professional purposes, so it doesnt need to be a super high end system yet i just need something decent which will work nicely at least for 1 year

I have already posted an update on my situation, unfortunately the admin hasn't approved it yet so please hang in there.

EDIT: Okay the moderator has approved the post and can be read few posts up - sorry for that.

In Brief: of the config i mentioned in my first post, several parts are not available in mumbai and retail dealers have given me "alternatives" which im not sure of.

sounds good erractic , go for it , you could try the mushkin rams too , they are available , otherwise rest all sounds good

It was a little odd to not see a reply for a few days.

Are you quite sure you want to stay AMD and mainstream CPU? In which case the Dell should do fine but it doesn't include a monitor....

You should be able to reach the same config with parts purchased yourself.

I'd suggest the 1060 with a 890FX or 790FX board - the GX have onboard GPU which you'll never use, and the FX boards will run marginally better and faster due to better silicon. The two are very similar in performance, you won't lose whichever way you go. I still think Intel would be my personal choice for this kind of a setup, but it's your cash!!

I see the cost of Asus graphics cards has come down. I'm not sure a 5870 is the way to go unless you are confident you need the extra gaming or code power. For rendering in OpenGL the Quadro and FireGL cards would be worth a look.

I wouldn't buy the CM Extreme series. You need a CM Real Power, Corsair HX650 or a Seasonic. The 500W supply should be enough if you don't overclock.

Get the SSD from one of our dealers here. The guys at Lammy are making a killing, the drives are not *that* expensive. The 1TB WD Black drive for 7250 is a laugh. You should be able to score it under 5K no problem.

Good Luck. Maybe you should post a final configuration with all the costs and then the pricing experts can jump on!

Just as a heads up to you about dealers here, Techenclave itself has a dealer section. Dealer's Paradise Phoenix is a highly recommended dealer here.

He should be able to hook you up with most if not all the things you need at very good prices.

Also, I suggest you rethink going the AMD way. Intel chips are still much ahead of AMD when it comes to rendering.

May we know the reason of preferring AMD so much...??

Get the

Intel corei7 950

Msi Pro-e or go for P6T7 WS SuperComputer if you want ultimate performance....(choose this wisely coz the price diff. is good)

Cooler master v6 GT(it's cheap) or if you can pick Spire Thermax Eclipse II, that'll be the best...V8 is also very good..

Nvidia qudro fx

coz

Quadro FX cards are equipped with heavy rendering capabilities than GTX and other normal cards which are generally used for gaming.... So they are much capable for high end Video editing applications...

Some of the features that Quadro FX card have are:

- 128-bit color precision

- Unlimited fragment instruction

- Unlimited vertex instruction

- 3D volumetric texture support

- 12 pixels per clock rendering engine

- Hardware accelerated antialiased points and lines

- Hardware OpenGL overlay planes

- Hardware accelerated two-sided lighting

- Hardware accelerated clipping planes

- 3rd generation occlusion culling

- 16 textures per pixel in fragment programs

- Window ID clipping functionality

- Hardware accelerated line stippling

But as a brand new quadro 6000 goes for whooping $5000!! :O

you can also go for GTX480....then you can easily go sli after some time....

RAM,SSDs and other stuff you've picked up is ok..

I seriously suggest the above things if you wanna put your money to some good use...

Regards

Erratic the prebuild dell you're talking about is no where close to what you actually need and what can be bought in that budget....so it's not worth 100k for granted.....

A few points you might want to consider -

1) The 1055T is just 10% slower than the i7 930 while rendering in 3DS Max. However, we have opted for gigabyte 880g boards in our office, which give us a cost diff of 13k compared to i7 930 + intel WX58BP. With a 1090T+ 890FX, performance diff would be even lesser, but so would be the cost diff. Think about it.

2) At least in 3ds max, professional cards (quadro and firegl) make just about no difference. Max is highly optimised for directX, so the regular gaming cards work great. We have a few 5770s in our office, and they perform fine. Of course it would depend on how polygon heavy your scene is.

3) For me at least, 2 medium monitor >>> 1 bigger monitor. 2 of the Dell U2311Hs would be great. :)

not everyone overclocks :)

hey...it's "she" :D

lol..right but she wrote that she will overclock :)

and as now 950 is for 14.5k and 1090t is also for the same....no way to go for AMD...just doesn't make sense....

and I know that quadro is expensive as hell...that's why I wrote about the GTX480 B-)

UPDATE AS OF 9/9/10 --- 11 PM

Hey! sorry for the late update...

I have been reading all your posts, mine just take long to get approved... since I am a new member

After further research I unfortunately found out that the ATI cards I was considering wont work as some of my programs (MMORPG) are using OpenGL and does not render the visuals properly (this is confirmed information).

Hence I have to opt for nVidia.. so based on your recommendations I will now rather go for an Intel/nVidia combo.

(I am aware that AMD works with nVidia GPU's, but I prefer Intel)

So now the configuration has changed dramatically

What I have come up with the help of Cranky is :

CPU : Intel Core i7-930

Ofcourse a 950 would be great as well, if it fits in the budget and where I can buy it.

To clarify, I don't plan to overclock.

Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard

GPU :

I am looking at the GTX 460 for this

MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5/OC

Zotac GTX460 AMP! is a consideration as well but cant find it.

PSU : Corsair HX650W

RAM : Is a problem as of now... the current motherboard is a tri-channel. As I would 8GB or more, i have an option of either going with 4 x 2GB or 3 x 2GB.

I would have REALLY liked to opt for 2 x 4GB or 3 x 4GB however I am not able to find any dealer who has a kit of 4GB bars. They only stock single bars of 4GB I don't know if that is advisable to put together....

HDD : WD Black 1TB (FAEX) for OS (currently I saw it only on ebay india, but i am sure I can get this one on lammy somewhere...) and

WD Green 1TB(EARS) for storage.

CASE : Was thinking of the Nzxt TEMPEST EVO Crafted Series .

I was recommended the CoolerMaster HAF 922 Mid Tower Cabinet because of 'excellent' cooling abilities.

DVD : Was looking for LG GH22LS50 but I could only find LG GH22NS50
