I've been with 3 ISPs before Airtel and I *know* the difference, it's not mindless speculation or rambling - I *know* when I'm getting quality service.
Anyway, if you think this is their answer to Bharti, you're wrong
^^ I came back to India in 2004, and got Sify Broadband in 2004 256 kbps, 1 GB download for 2.4 k per month. Before that I had a 2 mpbs unlimited connection since 2001 in Europe and US.
After having nightmare with Sify (good speeds, poor service and local ops) I changed over to MTNL for my parents PC in 2006 Feb (Home 600 Plan with NU). Constant speeds, only 1 outage in the entire 1 year of use, that was a faulty modem.
Finally I changed over from Sify to Airtel in my room in mid 2006.
So even I *KNOW* what I am talking about! When I see speeds of 1400 kbps on my parents PC when they are paying just 600 Rs and have night unlimited, I *KNOW* I am being ripped off my Airtel. When doing a Windows Update of 80 mb takes minutes on my parents PC and takes a full hour on my Airtel Home 999 plan, I *KNOW* what a fool Airtel is making of its customers. Just by having a CC rep who can speak english at the other end, or just by sending someone to your house next day, doesnt mean that the PLANS being offered by Airtel are price competitive.
I think I am qualified and experienced enough to make a statement about Airtel. I am not that into gaming (sometimes more, sometimes none). What I require is Bandwidth and not response time (not to say that Airtel Ping times are good...in North the ping times are ridiculous since the quake).
When I say I am dissapointed with Airtel, its not that I am against Airtel, or have a grudge against them. Its just that as a consumer Indians are looking for more bandwidth to match international standards and meet our aspirations. If a company like BSNL can give night unlimited at 600 Rs @ 2mps, all I expect is that a private operator with reputation like Airtel to have an answer. They dont, at least till NOW and its been over 2 months since MTNL/BSNL upgraded their lines. This is what I m fed up at. Airtel is milking the Indian consumer. Increase the price if thats an excuse, I am willing to pay 2k for a 2 mpbs unlimited plan. Or at least give like BSNL, 2 mbps with NU at 600 Rs.
