Review Aliexpress.com - Feedback Thread

Anytime someone bumps this post, a ray of hope in my heart comes alive. But the same is very short-lived once I read the replies.
abhi MR.DoLand Trump ke aane ke baad.
He will put pressure on Chinese economy and Chinese economy will put pressure on India. Govt. To open up.

So possible by next year AliExpress will start shipping.

Modi Govt. will not allow direct purchase/import.
Govt. will allow some importers to import unlimited from China and sell the same product at 10 to 20 times price OR 50 times price with Make in India Sticker, PLUS GST.
That is the reality of India. Rather than creating value from R&D or manufacturing, most of the cost goes to middlemen at the expense of end consumers.

Buying IC from Aliexpress used to cost me just Rs 200 to 500/- for a pack of 5, even 10.
Now, I have to pay 2000/- + shipping each from some random Delhi Shop with no Warranty.

There should be a dedicated course in IIM for 'Middleman Business'.
Low risk, high profit.

Aliexpress not delivering to India wouldn't hurt so bad if Flipkart didn't simultaneously shut down Ebay India. You can't even use normal Ebay anymore because of that.

That only really is worth it for expensive or bulk orders. For small or cheap items it adds a lot of overhead costs to the point that it is simply not worth it.
For example I wanted to get some parts to assemble a mechanical keyboard. Using a consolidator/shipment forwarding service made it more expensive than getting an imported pre-assembled mechanical keyboard from an online store in India itself.

I have used ebay.com recently and it works normally. Got mouse skates for like 7 USD and were delivered from China in around 25 days.

Never tried aliexpress or any international shipping as I found them to be a little risky in terms of sudden import tax. Can anyone with good amount of experience share some details and tips on it?

How are you guys placing orders from Aliexpress ?
For me, when I go to add address, it does not have the option for India under "Country"

However I have ordered items twice from Sunsky dropshipping
1. G pro x headphone jack
2. Zotac rtx 2060 fan replacements

Both items arrived in about 20days, once in India, they were shipped via DTDC air.
The quality is generic, product description says original :(
On the headphone jack, the mic gives a buzzing noise with this new cable.
For the gpu fans, the quality felt poor, but fits and works great!

I got a laptop cooling fan on eBay.com from a seller in China, arrived just like orders from Aliexpress used to. Feels like eBay is the new Aliexpress.

Smaller orders shipped through regular post almost always arrives without customs. These items have either free shipping or shipping is $2 or $3.

But if you upgrade to EMS or DHL or FedEx, those orders are almost always levied with customs duty.

But, if you order from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, those never get taxed, even with DHL. Does not apply for Hong Kong, that's definitely taxed. I have not yet tried out Japan, but other members have.

USPS First Class is also not taxed, it's their basic postal service. I used to buy stuff from performance-pcs.com with that. The next level up, USPS Priority International, that's always taxed even though both services are delivered by the postman.

@anmolbhard004 has a package forwarding membership that greatly simplifies things. For the amount of effort he puts into making sure everything goes smooth, I think he should charge an amount to offset his time, even if it's just $1 per item.

@rsaeon Great explanation, thanks. And I assume this is only for small orders and bigger ones like headphones and mobiles would get taxed either way? Any idea on how much the taxes would be atm if applied?
