Android Mobile Phone Thread

Hello,

I am pretty satisfied with my G1. As for rooting and putting modded ROMs, you should check out sites like xda-developers.com , cyanogenmod.com etc. They have pretty good guides. Even I myself have posted a bare-bones rooting guide earlier in this thread.

I am not so sure about HTC Tattoo .. I think it is the cheapest Android phone abroad .. not so sure of its price here. And if you get an Android phone, definitely root it .. or else you can't take full advantage of it .. it will become just another smartphone like say .. an S60 phone.

I have put Debian Linux on my phone. No GUI so far. Have to do some more work to get it into GUI.

Dude .. for one . .you can install debian linux :) .. you get multitouch in browser, touchscreen keyboard ( mightbe there in latest update from HTC .. not sure ). .. some Android 2.0 features .. and also ability to install themes, skins to change looks.

You an install apps on your SD card so that you get a LOT more space ( ratehr than on phone memory which runs out fast ), you can enable RAM cache to improve performance, overclock the CPU to 528 MHz for more performance. And more :)

I am using Cyanogen 4.2.7 as well , thinking of trying out 2.1 builds but those don't have camera working :( ..

BTW for Apps2Sd to work all you need to is make another EXT 3 partition right ?

XP64 totally sucks! Can't install the usb driver :@

*runs off to persuade sys admin to install win7*
Ok, got a win7 rig to work on :) Partioning the SD card using amon ra's recovery image 1.5.2; its been running for over 15mins now :S Is that normal for a 2gb card?

^^Mine was done in a few minutes..Not sure if it should take that long.

@All: Please suggest some cool apps!

Also, where can I find themes and UI mods for Android ?

Which is the best android phone under 20k??

For under 20k HTC Tattoo is all you can get. I picked one up for 17k about 2 weeks back. Its resistive screen but loving it so far :)

Wow! This is fun :ohyeah:

I managed to partition the SD, then wiped everything and installed hik@ri 2.1 It was without the sense ui. I tried out the google join-the-dots unlock thing, set a pattern, and then got locked out of my phone! :rofl:

So, wipe again, and back to mcr3.0 :hap2:

Now, what are the apn settings for vodafone mobile connect?

Edit: Ok got them. It is just www for the apn, everything else can be blank :)

^^Thanks for the list of apps!

AFAIK,

HTC Tatoo --> 17k

HTC Magic --> 22-24k

HTC Hero --> 26-28k

Any way to reduce the system font size in Android ? Especially in the list views ? I find them a bit too huge for my liking..

hi guys. pardon me for not searching over this but please tell me what is the cheapest alternative to go wid android in india, ive been thinking over buyin a phone recently and till now im inclined towards 5800 xm but since i own around 2 symbian phones already .. i am giving a serious thought towards android wid google backin it and all. also as i dont know bout this much .. is the platform stable/usefull enough for daily usage? i,d also like to know if its possible to upgrade the os like in pc wid these things?

:rofl: I actually did something similar while partitioning my SD card for extra space .. Had to flash twice .. still on cyanogen though .

BTW ADB drivers worked just fine for me on Windows Xp x64 :S

Managed to get Google Navigation working as well :D
