Anyone used GoMechanic app/website?

The only secret to success is...
Enclave Plus
Galvanizer
As usual I did the stupid thing of procuring the service before researching it in depth. But I'd still like to ask the good people of TE so I can be mentally prepared for any horror stories that might happen with me.

For me, so far it's been okayish. Booked a bumper replacement for the car, which the app said would cost a little over 3K, which I paid online. But after they picked up the car, I got an estimate for 13K. Then I asked them to remove the (to me) unnecessary services, post which they sent a revised estimate for a little over 6K, from which the initial amount I paid would be deducted.

This whole rigamarole I found a little shady, though I am glad they agreed to take off services without any hassle. But the treatment once the estimate was revised to 6K is markedly different. While with the 13K estimate they were quite enthusiastic about following up and all that, once the estimate was lowered, they're least bothered and I have to chase them for revised estimates, timelines etc.

This got me wondering if any members here have had any experience with these guys. So, please share your experience with GoMechanic if you have ever used it. Thanks.

All I know is GoMechanic is a franchise based business, just like McDonalds. Workers their are forced to do things which are not morally correct. So it's best to not have high expectations from GoMechanic.

Perhaps the desi "Raju Car Workshop" with denting painting services with no digital footprint could offer you a better experience, specially if you offer him extra money than his regular clients, because he runs his own buisness and is not forced under someone.

Although I would always recommend getting stuff done from the official workshop as they follow a strict protocol but seeing things are costly there... The next option is local shops... Yes it takes time and sweat, being there and asking a few and then zeroing on... But it's the cheapest and stuff is done in front of your eyes..

For spares try this
Boodmo.com
Though havent bought anything as yet, but would certainly buy and heard good things..

I tried it out some months ago, they appear to be targeted towards people who do not have any inclination to get it done themselves.

Our twenty-five-year-old Zen wouldn't start, and it wasn't a dead battery, so I booked a visit, and the person didn't even show up. He called and said he'll need to tow the car to his workshop, and that'll cost 2000 by itself, plus whatever work was needed to be done. I told him his ancestors would be ashamed of what their lineage has evolved into and declined. The problem ended up being a dead solenoid, but I took it upon myself to replace the starter and solenoid together, and it wasn't difficult at all, just two bolts, two wires and one nut:

(I'd never done anything like that before)

I've been made my uncle's designated driver for his twenty-year-old CRV that started randomly overheating. I found the fans had died, so I got replacement motors, but it still didn't work:

(Again, I've never done anything like this before)

But that didn't fix it, so I looked up online and found that there are Bosch branded service workshops that do a decent job and took it to the nearest one to me. Work was slow because a lot of things happened when car overheated — the radiator burst, ac lines became loose, brake master was damaged, wires melted, causing a short in the ecu, etc, etc. They had it for almost two months, but fixed everything as best as I could have hoped. They were extremely professional and apologetic about the slow progress. Turns out they needed to trace out the wiring harness to repair it, procure another ecu, send it to Mumbai for reprogramming and then send it a second time because it was not done correctly, etc, etc. The costs were very reasonable, I attached the bill (R/R is remove & replace — the cost of labour). A lot of work needed to be done since it's so old. But it is a nice car to drive, even if it's just 4kmpl (2.4L japan import with oversized tires).

In short, skip GoMechanic and seek out a Bosch Service workshop instead.

Excellent post as always @rsaeon. You are something else. Always ready to experiment.

A 25 year old zen and a 20 year old CRV. This reminds me of our car Honda City diesel which we bought in 2014. We thought we would keep it for as long as it runs. But unfortunately, stupid policy of Delhi NCR has ruined car owning for us. The car has only been driven 40K km and drives like new. Your post just made me jealous mate.

Sorry for off topic post. Couldn't help commenting.
