My APC 1000VA has been replaced 11 times during warranty....my warranty expired just 3 months ago today when i power on the APC it just blew up in my face :(.

I need a replacement as soon as possible which brand should i go for? here is what i have in mind:

1) APC 800VA

2)mICROTEK 800va

which one should i go for :S

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

If its a voltage fluctuation issue then get the one which provides wider range with voltage... I thin Microtek has 185-300V range.... Check before buying...

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

I would advice APC normally as i had very bad experience with Microtek 'switching delay' where my PC would simply restart due to the delay in the UPS switching to batteries.Replaced with an APC BACK-UPS RS 800 and been fine ever since.

But in ur particular case, i dont think APC are compatible with the wiring in ur apartment to have undergone an unbelievable number of deaths in one year. So, try and see if Microtek is working fine with ur setup(switching speed and all) and go for it.

Regards

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

Get the APC new 1100 VA UPS. Has wider voltage range. Sells for some 5.8k I think. Backup wont be great on it.

Maybe it's your voltage problem, I have APC 500kva since 2003 & replaced the battery only once.

What I did was I got a separate wiring done from my meter especially for my computers with a Tripper which would go off incase any fluctuations giving me enough time to shut my computer.

I am not advising you to do the same, this is just my opinion because people here on TE have bad habit of overriding someones opinion and misleading the thread to argument instead of solution.

Powercom and Numeric also have 1kva models.I have been using numeric for around 4 years without any problem even when there is a lot of voltage fluctuation. But first check the wiring in your house with the help of an electrician before buying new ups.

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

NO i have moved to a new house..... also bought a 2 KVA digital stabilizer from Vguard to protect the APC after the 10th replacement too went kaput. The near by petrol bunk has a APC sine wave inverter it was replaced like 6 times the owner told me lol.

With the stabilizer this last unit lasted for 6 months which based on my exp. is a record :P.

The microtek has a wide voltage range it starts from 135V also numeric 800va UPS too is available locally i think...will check with the dealer immediately and report back .

I am even ready to buy APC smart series if they can give me trouble free service .....but after this episode i am very afraid to go for APC :(.

Update : Numeric has stopped the 800va model so my only option is 800vs microtek double battery model .

guys microtek 800va works with VX450 right??????

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

If what I have heard and read across the internet is correct, APC's domestic inverters and home use UPSs are worth monkey b@lls. This includes the smart series 750VA SUA750I as well (things could be different now with this model). But once you start looking beyond this point there are some very good industry grade models manufactured by them, such as the SUA1000I or the SUA1500I. These are built keeping in mind they will be in use at data centres and have good reputation, also known to last longer. Keep in mind you are using a Corsair PSU, therefore it makes sense to buy a good Sine wave UPS.

The Answer is No AFAIK.

Microtek 800 VA double battery UPS is a solid product using 6 + Years by replacing (Exide Now) battery only.....but it can't able to handle Crossair VX lineup.

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

A 800va ups can handle PSU upto 550W.I would rather suggest a 800VA APC Sine wave UPS with external battery.

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

Ok bought the Microtek 800VA double battery UPS for Rs 2550 from delta and charged it for 10 hrs....Just now connected it to my pc and tested the ups.....its WORKING with the corsair just fine :ohyeah:.It doesnt shut off my pc when the voltage fluctuates .

Now i am cursing myself for blowing Rs 15000 on APC :@.

Learn from my trouble guys do not buy APC UPS(not the smart series) if there are lot of voltage fluctuations in your area :P.

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

please do not celebrate too soon :p

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

^^You are right ....but if this microtek gives trouble free service even for a year then its paisa vasool for me.You have no idea what i went through with APC.....It crashed my PC numerous times....i have suffered a lot :(even if some problems develops in future i may change the corsair and go for some non pfc model but i will never ever buy APC again.

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

You can change the sensitivity of APC ups if there are too much power fluctuation. There are 3 settings, if the UPS have computer cable you can do this from the software which APC provides. If its a model without any data cable then you can do this by going in program mode, its well described in the one page leaflet they provide with the UPS. I have a 1100VA model without any data cable and it used to switch on batteries everytime there was fluctuation, then i change the sensitivity to medium from high and now it runs fine. The voltage range also gets wider when you decrease the sensitivity.

Re: APC 1000VA blows up need replacement Advice pls

I had very similar issue with my Sukam Pure Sine I Inverter when I was using VX 450, but never had trouble with my earlier PSU, which was a Zebby Pro/HEC 550W 80+. Now Im using Tagan BZ800 modular active PFC PSU 80+ Silver, and my PC doesnt even turn off on powercuts while switching over to my Inverter. Its an inverter and not a UPS. The VX450 made my Inverter burn in fire twice, and the inverter serviceman said, nothin wrong with the Inverter, but some appliance is acting weird and hence the problem. I even tried RMAing the VX450 twice but no use. Finally sold off the VX450 after again freshly RMAing it.

Moral: VX450 is causing the problem. One of my friend suffered the same with his APC Inverter/Whirlpool Sinewave Inverter and VX450, and he RMAed thrice, the it worked fine the third time. VX550 might be a different story. Its PFC works kinds different and doesnt show this problem, maybe coz of the fact its from another OEM, and not the Seasonic.

Thats some good info for people who are planning on plugging their VX450 to a inverter. But in my case it was not the VX450 that was causing the problem.....the APC could not handle the voltage fluctuations even APC guys admitted that. They tested all the wiring and stuff....in this short period i have moved to 3 different houses so it cant be the wiring .

Been there done that....no use even with a digital stabilizer....their 1KVA model is just too fragile.

i have the APC UPS 1100VA UPS, hasn't been replaced for the past6 months now, but yeah sometimes does act cranky.. service provided by APC is really good, i cant give u my word for that. Microtek performs just as well but u need to get the details and decide for yourself. APC will cost significantly higher than microtek

I'm also using the Microtek 800va currently with VX450+6850 and it doesn't get turned off even while gaming (it does give worrying a tak-tak-tak sound after I turn off the PC while UPS is still on but no power). I've owned a 500va and 650va APC ups previously and they gave me trouble all the time(several rma's for both) and then died quite soon after the 2 year warranty period was over. The 500va one in fact had the battery swelling up. One of my friends staying in chennai has a apc 1.1kva which he has kept aside and powering his pc directly coz its unable to take the low voltages.

So, fwict unless you can spend the big bucks on getting a online ups or something I don't think there really is an option that can protect us properly and hence going for a cheap product that gets the job done somehow ends up being the only option.

Yep your observation is correct.....the backup series APC UPS just gives up if there are lot of voltage fluctuations.....whenever the APC guys comes to give the replacement they always bring a few other models as well for other customers in the area......Reading all the forums i really believed that the higher price of APC is just an investment and it will surely pay dividend in the long run.....but it turned out to be a nightmare for me....even with a digital stabilizer which i bought foolishly trying to save the APC from fluctuation did not work .....Rs4500 down the drain :(.To top it all up some senior guy from APC called me up after i complained strongly to return my money and he said i should go for some indian brands next time as APC is not working for me :(.
