Seeing how blatantly some companies have ripped off Apple's works, there is nothing wrong in a company trying it's best to safeguard it's IP (not referring to this patent in particular). I don't know much about this patent, so I would like to reserve my thoughts until I read more about it. However, it's really funny (although not surprising) to see the amount of hatred and bias over here! Well, Motorola sued Apple for using 3G technology (which is a universal standard) and also won. But it's all cool and fine as long as it's not Apple. :)

Okey so i guess its a bad thing to get something patented. Come on guys. Apple only just got it patented. They have sued anybody as of yet for the same. Why so much hate.

I dont have anything against a company safeguarding their ip. But Apple is acting like a big bully. They dont want to license their ip's and they sue so that other mobiles are banned completely and they file complaints not with patent office (Where they will loose 100% most of the time) but with the USTrade commission where they can do maximum damage and ban import of the phones alltogether.

Samsung asked to licence some of their os patents in Australia and USA, but were denied and Apple said they wanted to ban android os phones completely there. This is like saying that they do not want any other phone company in USA or other countries where they wish.

Apple stopped innovating long time back. Now they open new proxy companies to sue the heck out of others. Its working like a company run by patent trolls now.

Apple used to innovate. Now all they do now is try to stop other from innovation. They have shell companies which are patent trolls.

As far as the copying is concerned, Apple does not need to actually run after Samsung and the others because they know that the iOS experience is much better. But no, they want the cake and eat it too. They want to rip us off and not allow any alternatives too.

Apple is patenting stuff that is obvious. Hell, the way I look at it, its like MS saying, we use a taskbar, so no one else can use it. Come on. OR an even better example, my car has 4 wheels and a steering wheel & space for 4/5 people and a boot, so you can make something like that. Just because you make a tablet, so no one else can make one too? And then they went and did the photoshop bit.

As far as Apple's win in Germany (the only place where they got a complete ban) is because the law there is completely skewed in favor of the rights holder. A bloody stupid example is this : http://torrentfreak.com/retired-computerless-woman-fined-for-pirating-hooligan-movie-111222/

Apple has a tie with the US PTO. They will grant whatever Apple says. Anyways the good thing is that my purchase of iPad2 is canceled :yeah: Will be splurging on a LED TV.

^what photoshop u thing talking about ? Afaik wasn't it done for a reason ? If not, if Apple really cheated then Sammy is the most dumbest company ever. How can they sit like ducks when they know :bleh:

Dear Apple,

If you are really worthy, beat the competition fair and square in the game, dont backstab them. It just shows that you are accepting the fact that you cannot match their products, or that you fear that they will outgrow you. If you cannot beat an opponent, at least stay quiet in defeat, dont throw tantrums and run to court pointing fingers at innovative companies like Motorola and HTC. Shame on you!

This is one of the funniest posts I have ever read in my life. Not making fun of the OP, but just the literal sense. Nothing related to the thread. He he. Repping you for this..100%.

^That doesn't answer my question ;)

Think deeper. Both of them are of different sizes. No one in their sane minds (Americans, Apple fanbois's, lawyers and employees are not included, for *ahem* reasons) can get confused between the two.

Lol when everyone was copying apple I was wondering why would they not sue them.

A few years down the line. I understand. They let the competition make money so that suing actually has some returns.

:-)

Lol I'm really sorry for not reading the OP. But two things are clear.

If they indeed have the patent then they are legally entitled to sue anyone who violates their IP. No point ranting about it.

But this is more likely. The second thing that would happen is, when apple sues someone using this patent then it would lose it. It would be nullified for being too vague and comprehensive. This has happened before. I don't understand how it has been overlooked by so many.

I am not much aware of the history behind wars but i can say that its really bad for consumers as we will never get all good features in one device.

It would be very helpful if someone could explain- if a creates something and then b creates same thing and patents it then will a have to pay b?

I can see a lot of features in ios which were present in old symbian phones... Dint they patent it? I saw notification panel in android and bada n now its in belle and io5. So what about that?

And it seems that Jobs has recieved some sort of post houmous award or something for revolutionising music. :sheesh:

All he did was do what the MAFIAA wanted, lock in with DRM.

Those who are aware of patent process are aware that such patent can be always be reverted back if proved. And mostly yes this can be proved.

IPhone has been a revolution as far as phones are concerned. If you look at the OSes right now, almost all of them have been born after the iOS.

Microsoft dropped win mo 6.5

Nokia dropped meego (Intel too :-) )

Samsung: err...java? Can't remember

BlackBerry: poor chaps are failing to get a good OS out. And no one had complains.

There maybe more that I have skipped

Apple paid Motorola and Nokia before the iPhone even came up. Both of them wont go down just because of the sheer number of patents they have. If people buy patents from apple then it's good. They sue only because others don't. Also Samsung blatantly copies the icons. Now who would let you copy the exact skin. But if apple creates a monopoly with their patents then they will be slapped antitrust and anti competition lawsuits by the govt itself. I request everyone to stop painting an apocalyptic picture for the future of OSes.

I'm an Android user and am well aware of the capabilities of the iOS. Android is not a better experience than the iOS. But it is a more fulfilling experience and the only one that suits a power user.

I take pride in using Android for what it is, not because I bash iOS etc.

I was under the impression that there are apple fanboys and droid fanboys. But looking at several threads like this there only seem to be apple fanboys and the anti-apple fanboys.

Android FTW. :-D

They indeed revolutionized the Music industry. iTunes was introduced in the time of Napster. And also Steve's offer to Music companies, they had to agree, they had no other choice. Sales in music increased 200% fold afaik. Isn't that revolutionary ?

We Indians hardly buy music, but not the same case in US. Since Google also started selling music in droids, I am sure they will also introduce restrictions in their devices.

btw iTunes music is now DRM free.

And still you didn't answer my question ;)
