Say while you are in a active call, you can access other apps. In my iPhone, while in call pressing Home button launches springboard & from there you can open any apps. Same in droid.
In Nokia 1100, while in active call, pressing down button gives you list of options & from there you can access main Menu, check contacts, check sms.
basically using any other phone function while you are in active phone call. That's what is In-call app switching.
now you realize how ****ing ridiculous is this patenting this thing !

Now this just getting stupid! I don't know who is a bigger idiot - Apple or the people who approve such patents. Strictly from a commercial perspective, Apple is doing what all other companies are doing these days - racking up patents to defend themselves in the future if needed. The difference being Apple is now using it as a offensive tactic instead of a defensive one. Guess the old days when competitors could compete in a free and fair way are dead and done.
Motorola should own some tech patent that is used in ALL mobile phones (I hope). Its time they start using it to avoid getting eaten by Apple.

all android users should join hands and start a "boycott apple" movement. Apple is simply trying to bully HTC & Samsung (mainly these two) into submission because they also know that these companies can & will challenge them in terms of product design & innovation.

The amount of royalty Apple would get out of this would be unimaginable since many manufacturers' major sales happen in US.
No smart phone can exist without in-call switching of applications.
I can't think of any other patent which could be stronger than this one when it comes to suing other mobile manufactures and Mobile OS developers and getting royalty from them.
Just for the fun of it they could just get every phone in US banned besides iPhones.
I think its time for Apple to be destroyed, just like Rome was.

Now Google must file a patent of its search engine and sue apple for allowing iphone users use google search !!

Seeing how blatantly some companies have ripped off Apple's works, there is nothing wrong in a company trying it's best to safeguard it's IP (not referring to this patent in particular). I don't know much about this patent, so I would like to reserve my thoughts until I read more about it. However, it's really funny (although not surprising) to see the amount of hatred and bias over here! Well, Motorola sued Apple for using 3G technology (which is a universal standard) and also won. But it's all cool and fine as long as it's not Apple.

I loved Apple's designing prowess and wanted to try and buy their products. But these sort of patenting and ridiculous pricing has started imbibing in me Hatred and Anger.
They innovate a thing and then wants the world to stop using and improving it.
I think Samsung who provides them the processor and LG who provides them Retina Display should stop supplying them the components so that they just design Dummy phones to be kept in Display PATHETIC...
