How does it play with 1080p monitors ? I'm looking at M1 Air, but don't want to spend on a 4k monitor.

I don't have a 1080p to test with - but I believe that at least QHD is recommended.
it has been many years since the last non retina Mac was discontinued and I believe they have deprecated subpixel anti aliasing

Ditch the attitude, your superiority complex makes you look like a laughing stock. I never said that an iPad is meant to replace a desktop, that is your own assumption. Go back to the thread or else don’t talk about things which you cannot understand.
I responded to you because you claimed that an M1 iPad pro and the cheapest iPad are equal in every task which is a false statement. I never said that an iPad is equal to a desktop computer, it is what you assumed when Apple called an iPad; a computer.
Your problem is, You claim to have a discussion, ignores everything what others are saying and then jump to your own personal conclusions.
You assumed that everyone buying an iPad pro wants to use it as their only computer and hence the term 'replace everything'. Did anyone say or even expect that? No.
Then you assumed that iPad is an expensive add on. Since artists cannot use a Mac without a drawing tablet so you made another assumption "xyz % of users are artists".
Now you assumed that I don't even have a computer.
Is there any end to your assumptions ?

There you go. This is a blatant lie because I never said that. I literally wrote one word "film set". Because a tablet with a color accurate large screen is far more convenient to see footage or use as a monitor in comparison to a laptop.

Honestly I am in no mood to pick a fight especially when the same guy is showing his face everywhere.

If you can't afford a basic 4K monitor (barely 10k difference in price vs 1080p) then perhaps one should stop talking about Hollywood directors etc. Use your free time to enhance your skills or listen to some good music genres instead of picking fights online over attitude. Been there, done that and it's not worth the time. My friendly advice.

If I spend 60k on a device which needs another 30-40k to work properly then I will surely be frustrated.

No need to get frustrated, just use sidecar feature on iPad or use HDMI.

I am not interested and I never asked for your advice, you jumped here and brought in iPad. Also a person has to stand by something to fight. As I said, your superiority complex has made you a laughing stock. When logic fails, you disrespect others for what they can or cannot afford. I wanted to buy a Mac mini for my relative, who also edits my videos. She has a 1080p monitor right now. Regarding sidecar, I use a pc and an iPad. iPad is not for my editor. See, there are many things which you didn’t know and still don’t know because no one has asked you for an advice.

How big of a difference is the 15" MBP vs the 13". I have used the 13 inch for the past 6 years now and was wondering if I'd miss the extra real estate of the 16" one over the upcoming 14" one.
It'll be my home laptop so most usage will be movies, browsing, etc. Not much gaming (PS4/5 for that), maybe only Football Manager.

Would be helpful if anyone who has used both the 13 and 15" macbooks could chime in

The only way to do this is try one out in a store.
Display size preference on a laptop is a strong personal preference..
My personal favorite mac of all time is the 12" Core M Macbook despite the puny processor - while I have never liked the 15" MBP..
Hell, I could never get myself to like even the 2019 13" MBP that replaced the 2015 12" MB .

Also, screen real estate , esp on high res screens is also a function of what scaling you use. This was not a valid variable in the 1366x768 days but is a very important factor now for higher res screens as most people use a scaled up option on anything even FHD, let alone the QHD or higher on the Macs.

A smaller scaling option on a 13" will give you more real estate than the default scaling on a 15" MBP although you will have to sit closer to the screen.
There are too many variables for someone to help you on this - which is why my suggestion to try one in personand play around with the display scaling while you are at it.

Also, and again personally, When I need a large screen, I just dock the laptop to a desk setup with a large monitor..
While when out & about (whether in the house or outside), I much a prefer small & light 13 over a 15 .. I'd even take a 12 with a high res screen if it were an option
 
This is best time to get this model, as apple back to school offer for education store is started from today. Two days before only i placed an order and today i had a chat with apple support, i was told my order too is eligible to get free AirPods :D

Purchased mine two weeks ago , received it on the 9th. Hopefully I am eligible for this. Would be heartbreaking to spend so much and not be eligible for this right now. EDIT:- I am eligible, hell yeah!

You have to pay for Airpods Pro, but refular AP without charging case is free, with charging case is like an additional 4K. I think 14.5K for AirPods Pro. Edit:- 10K extra for AP Pros.
