+1. Not heard the AE2s.

But the mids on the MX are decent, though can be improved significantly. Slightly recessed mids and relaxed treble presentation. The bass on the MX is sensitive to placement, but is reasonably accurate with minimal overhang

Bass tight on the MX agree with you. And I know the mids can do better...your modded set is living, breathing :P proof of that...

Heard AE2, low volume listening good, else crap at higher volumes because you miss the lows.

Thanks, I hope those speakers are doing well for you. I enjoyed them a lot, and poured quite a lot of effort into the modding. I'm sure they're well above the level of the stock units.

The TS still hasn't updated this with their final choice.

There's no better flattery than following footsteps I'm looking to do an opamp mod on my tube amp now. Your hard work is my pleasure now. Thanks for selling them to me ;) I remember some idiots trying to lowball your sale thread too.

Anyways I've shone the woofer up with wax polish, that woofer is looking nice and black now :ohyeah:

^^People who want more bass than the MX's are bassheads. I feel the bass is amazing for the price of these speakers, it has variation, is tight, and well controlled. It also has the hit and impact opposed to boom. For the price of 7K the MX5021 is unbeatable for anything up to 10K available here.

Haven't heard the MX5021 Sangram Edition (A La Fatality) :P , however i beg to differ bout the comment on AE2s being shoody with lows at high volumes. Give them some time buddy, my experience they sound their best after about 40-45 mins of playback on them. (It might be due to the kevlar, as wellas the Class AB amp which is also typical of this behaviour).

All said and done, its upto your ears.

well, the A2's are best for music, while the MX's sub helps it with the booms for movies and games :)

Bang on target there Greenie, IMO the THX thing forces them to have the boom  .

the sub isnt all that boom, and puts out much better bass , at least when compared to things like the Logitech Z2300.

I don't want to get into a combative position, but the MX sub did not boom.

It was very sensitive to placement. I did write that before. And sub that has a port at the back and near the floor would automatically get some floor gain, and if you then went and placed it near a wall it would boom.

THX has nothing to do with boom. It specifies a certain response, power level and distortion at that power level. It's not a bass boost circuit, maybe reading about it will help you understand before making comments about a piece of equipment. I personally think THX is a load of bull, but for different reasons.

As for burning in, it's a reality and does take its time. I think this thread is turning into a verbal battle between those who own the individual equipment (only one poster has both). It's really a question of taste, and the two are very different pieces of equipment. I've said this earlier: The AE2s have an artificially boosted low end, and I'm not the one who said that first - there are measurements to prove it. This causes them distress at high volumes. If you can't hear that, you probably would do fine with cheaper speakers.

OOps din't mean to offend any MX owners here sangram, least of all you dude!! My bad regarding the THX thing, wasn't clear enough.

I've heard the MX5021 at a shop in pune and they did sound a bit flabby there, (yes the guy had put them on a "table" near the wall).

As for the AE2s i am not a avid hard rock /metal listener, and mostly listen to new age, classical, jazz, ghazals, world music and the likes, so it may be th reason I did not notice the crumbled low end.

the mark of an audiophile is (s)he will call every sub or even floorstanders boomy till they discover the kit cost upwards of $5000 (or $100,000 depending upon the level of audiophilia they are currently within) after which the aforementioned boom transforms into tight and well controlled lows

lol..j/k :P

sarang, I'm not an MX owner. I was, but I'm not quick to pass judgement until I experience it myself or someone I trust does. John is someone who has my deepest regards, as an audiophile and a producer of music and so I trust his judgement of equipment a lot, so I will go by his call on the AE2.

If you find the bass on the MX flabby, it's totally fine, as your tastes are your own and they do vary from person to person. And I'm not offended by your opinion, just expressing a counter point of view.

gOOd one there 'czar.

@Sangram: Point well taken there. I only had one listen and thats how the opinion was formed, i'll be careful next time. Now i really want to go visit darky (he's got the MX), and have a good listen. Honstly, me too dint ever listen to the AE2s before the purchase and went ahead with the words of wisdom shared by people like you, greenie, chaos, TH and the likes.

Sarang

Not really. I tested them for 7 hours, not 30 minutes. And the piece we recieved had more than 100 hours chalked up. The lack of bass impact is distracting when listening to your favourite tracks. And I'm not a bass head by any means. Hate those type of rigs and setups, but LF are important.
