Gold has its value due to the scarcity of it. Had gold is available in crores of tonnes in many countries, it would price just like another metal(ex.steel)Now I think I replied to the same query. Does the value of the Video Card/GPU appreciate with Time ? I hope you know Gold is also used for making currency, Hope you have heard about Gold Standard. The gold standard is a monetary system where a country's currency or paper money has a value directly linked to gold.
So this comparison is not a good one. You cannot compare the Value of Gold/Property with a GPU. Why because there is a newer version of GPU coming every year. There is no new version of Gold or Property being launched every year or 18 months. That is the reason that this reason does not holds up. For Gold, you can always polish, melt it and make another ornament, can you do that with a GPU ?

As more gold is mined and sold, the demand increases. When I say demand increases, it means countries/ ornament makers are willing to pay more for it and buy it. The increased cost is passed on to the consumers. The consumer ultimately decides whether he is ok with the price or not thereby confirming or denying the demand by buying or not buying at the increased cost.
so GPU or even perishable goods when they are in shortage due to scalping/ hoarding/ semi conductor shortage, etc., the increased price is confirmed by consumers. Again the consumers could be miners for whom it’s a matter of time when they get the return on the initial cost they spend.
the high price is not acceptable for lot of gamers/ consumers who need it for consumption and not getting any return out of it which is unfortunate. at the End it call comes to affordability. our rant is not gonna change much.
