After a lot of consideration and further inputs from members...being more enlightened !

I'm now inclining towards the Panasonic TZ5/TZ15 ! :ashamed: :P ;)

Could you please share those considerations/inputs in this thread please? Even I'm in a similar situation. I saw the image comparison link you had posted earlier. Canon's colors look better (more vibrant, but warm with a reddish tinge) than the Panasonic (comparatively dull with slightly orange tinge), the low light shots are way better with Canon. Canon's images seem a lot sharper than Panasonic which seem a lot softer. But, there is visible pixel fringing in the Canon. See the borders of the lettering on the bottle. They look clean on the Panasonic but have reddish/purplish hues on the Canon. Overall, I still feel Canon has the upper edge in the image quality department.

Please share your thoughts on what made you sway from sx110 to tz5.

SX110 to TZ5?

*slimmer body,more stylish..:P

*vid recording quality a tad better(frgt HD for now!)

*pop up flash can be an annoyance at times

*sx110's image was realistic but tz5's was more vivid/vibrant..by a small margin..

*the hue n cry bout tz5's much better lens..

*better battery life..

but then canon has better face detection, more realistic colour reproduction , better illumination for night shots, runs on AA batteries & a better macro mode..

All conflicting here and there..and now with the sony H10 coming into picture, doesn't make it any easier for me ;)

^^ That does not mean they are compact !!!

Most ultrazoom compacts are a bit too big to slip into your pant pocket and not jut out.

I know that !
Just mentioned the category they fall under..

If having a 10X zoom means added bulk, then I'm ok with it!
And i definitely ain't gonna slip it into my pant pocket..

Allright,by 15k(market price)..hopefully a 13k or less price tag in the grey market!?

I have THREE ULTRAZOOM COMPACTS to choose from:
Canon SX110 , Panasonic TZ5 , Sony H10

The idea is to narrow it down to ONE!? ;)

It will be my ALL PURPOSE digicam and I intend to use it for a few years...

So the best bet among the three would be???

A 590 IS is available for Rs.6800 at Lammington Road.

These will be grey prices of course :)

@op: Sorry for the OT

^^ Guys you are going way off topic. Please start a new thread to discuss this.

@toxicmind - I would suggest you drop the Sony H10 from the list. If you want to learn more about photography (use manual controls for certain shots) then go for the Canon S110 IS. If however all you want to do is point the camera in the direction you want to take a picture and let the camera do the rest, then go for the Panny.

The Panny is a better P&S since it has a nice wide angle, Li-on battery (quick flash recycle time) and a sleeker body. (relative to the S110)

the A720IS in spite of being discontinued was a very good camera and got many good reviews on its image quality & VFM! the newer A2000 doesn't look all that appealing...

IXUS 85IS = Rs.10300 ???! ur kiddin me right?

The lower model , IXUS 80IS still retails for 12.X k everywhere !!!!

IXUS 80IS = 8MP

IXUS 85IS = 10MP

And now if we could get back to my query !?

thnx a lot !

but what about the image quality of the canon and panasonic??? macro mode?

^^ If you are going to print on a 4x6 photo, both will have practically the same result. IQ wise, both will be very similar. If just their strengths which set them apart.

No mater what you do you can't use manual controls with the Panny. And no matter what you do, you can't get a wider angle on the Canon. So you need to chose which is more important to you.

Oh and the Canon's macro performance is much better than the Panny. But again, how many macro shots do you think you will take. For most of your pictures, the wide angle will be far more useful.
