BioShock Infinite - Discussion Thread

Done with the game and looks like Irrational just managed to pull off a Christopher Nolan with the storyline. I didn't really see the end taking such a different turn. I know it's way too early to say this, but this is my Game of the Year, for now. The upcoming games need to really measure up in a massive way, not only in terms of gameplay, but also in terms of storyline, one which can even remotely rival the likes of this game.

I wouldn't be able to write a full review on this game, as it would only result in a large variety of praise-worthy adjectives being thrown in. So I'll just keep it short and say that it was a pleasure to have played a game, which is quite frankly, one of the best games to grace this decade. I'm just going through various boards and YouTube videos trying to piece together the smaller pieces of the game's storyline.

Now for the sad part. After playing a thought provoking game, I'm reduced to a backlog which is comprised of mindless shooters and God knows what else. Oh well, guess we'll have to just live with mediocrity for a while now.

This is how I felt, but hey. Just play it again. It'll blow your mind now that you've seen the ending. Every little detail is connected.

I really can't think of a better game that I've played. This was a joy and a privilege. I do get your Chris Nolan reference but frankly, Inception had me thinking too much and less emotionally invested in the characters. This game did it all. Elizabeth!

Game of the year? Game of a lifetime for me, and it's been 25 years since my first video game. :-)

The detail is what made this game so exquisite. It took me roughly 14 hours on Normal and I grabbed as many Voxophone entries as I could. At one point, I wasn't even bothered with the gameplay, as it served as a means to progress through the storyline.

The feeling is mutual, but for me, Witcher 2 still remains the best title I have played till now. Though, it may not posses such a complex story as this one, but it allowed us to make our own choices and alter the events of the game based on those choices. Mass Effect did the same, but then came Mass Effect 3's ending and our choices from the previous games turned out to be a joke. The Walking Dead comes in at a close second, when it comes to emotionally being tied to the characters.

Of course, I didn't mean from an emotional perspective. I meant for a game to establish a premise that introduced so many plot elements which constantly kept you digging for more information. Towards the end, you have questions, then we have theories, some questions are answered while others are open for interpretation. This is not what we see in video games these days. As for Elizabeth, I have no words to express how amazingly her character was written. Her mo-cap artist and voice actor definitely deserve an award.

On a side note, I was wondering there were some parts which seemed to be excluded from the game, or I must have missed them. But these were bits from the PAX demo shown in 2011. Here's a footage of an interview from Courtney Draper and Troy Baker and observe some of the scenes in this game, which I couldn't find in the full game.

BTW I hope you and everyone else didn't skip the credits. :-)

As for the missing bits, one of their designers said they threw away more work than was put into the first BioShock so yeah, they discarded a lot to make it tighter.

I didn't skip anything in the game. I sat through the whole credits, watched Troy Baker and Courtney Draper sing 'Will the Circle be Broken' and then the end scene.

I don't think they should have omitted the Horse scene. It was such a beautiful sentiment that Elizabeth expresses and tries to revive it by creating a tear. It also show a good character development/bonding moment.

My take on that is
it would have made her seem too powerful before her latent powers are unlocked in final stages of the game. Prior to that, she is shown opening tears when required, but not fully manipulating them. Even when she revives Booker after a death, she is shown using some sort of serum, and not healing through tears.

Edit: I just checked Youtube and one poster has commented that it was taken out because

there are no horses in Columbia. I didn't think of this. I remember seeing some horses around, but they looked kinda mechanical. Should check.

This sequence seemed to be a sporadic burst of emotion, which could have triggered such an attempt from her. You can see how shocked Booker was to witness such an unusual event. Then Elizabeth goes onto say "You're right. I can't control this. It's not possible". It shows her trying to push the limits of her powers, but she doesn't fully understand the extent of it. Truth be told, this sequence had particularly caught my attention and had brought me to realize how awesome this game would be back then. That doesn't deny the fact that it still is a brilliant game

Here take a look at the full footage from E3 2011 Gameplay:

This could be a possibility. However, he's under the assumption that since we didn't see any Horses around, there aren't any at all. If Birds can exist in Columbia, then why not animals?

Birds are naturally accustomed to high places and low pressure maybe. I don't know, just grasping at straws at the moment.

Then again, they did put a dog in space in our world.

I wish the game had quick save option(save anywhere except in combat).
I also wish we could carry atleast 3 weapons but all i care for is quick-save.

I have almost completed the game on 1999 mode. It's not that challenging. ;)

^Exactly my gripes as far as the gameplay elements were concerned. They gave the option to switch Vigor, but not weapons. I never once picked up the RPG in this game. My best 2 weapons were Sniper and Machine gun.

I'm surprised this thread is only 7 pages long. It's a monumental effort by Irrational and is taking the world by storm. Other discussion boards have literally been exploding with Bioshock talk since its release. C'mon people! Do yourselves a favour and play this beauty :)

Am so torn between this and fc3 atm but leaning towards this more and in both cases I didnt play the 2nd in the series which do I get lol? Also is it necessary to play the bioschocks in order or can I skip 2 for later?

I haven't played BioShock 2 either. Infinite is not a continuation. It's almost not even related in any way so you can play it even if you've never played any BioShock game before.

I haven't played Far Cry 3 but from what I've seen and read, it's not even in the same league. It's probably a good game, maybe even a great one, but BioShock Infinite is widely being considered one of the best games of all time - a gem that shows up once in a generation and revolutionizes the gaming industry. Think Half-Life or Half-Life 2 at the time of their respective releases.

Finished it. Awesome. liked every details dev put on it.
The best part is Elizabeth's AI. Its like playing with co-op where felt playing with a friend next to me to help.
i analysed it at most part, how she reacts with the current situations and the environment.
and i really loved her expression she exhibits after hearing that she will be going to Paris and angry starry face, she shows after she learned that she is taking for NY for Booker's interest.
Ending, i never expected it.

Almost towards the middle of the game. I didnt liked bioshock that much. But this game has my attention.Really liking the way it is progressing.

Completed it. I found the gameplay better than bioshock. The game does looks awesome with equally matching atmosphere, music & dialogues.

What did you not like about the first BioShock? Did you complete it?
Yes long back. I found some parts of it boring.

I too has the same feeling. Bioshock was good. But by 2 its seemed a lot of repetition. Just didn't have the patience to finish it.
