Oh okay anywayz luckily tomorrow is my off day so i am visiting tomorrow,If any body needs any more info from the customs office regarding this please let me know i will ask them and post it here

guys i just need to ask , how will they verify the invoice ??
if not can i edit the invoice and make it 28$ ( i have 2 m4s=56$) , as everyone will be showing the 28$ for their m4's ..
anyways i will go there on or after 25th , tomorrow is the last day i'm busy till 12:30pm

If you can get a clarification from the customs folks on the 2k limit & 5k fine, that would be great. I should have done that myself, but I had gone there without much thought.

Hmm. I had the impression they were more interested in figuring out the price of the item than tracking it down to individual.
If you can show invoice for 1 item at $28, they might let it pass.
Anyway, do wait till sekharsomu gets a clarification on the 2k limit.
i was thinking myself for changing the qty field value to 1 and 28$ , its pretty easy ..
but i wont need to do this if sekharsomu clears abt the fine
the custom charge for 56$ is approx rs .857
and for 28$ is rs.442
i can pay both ..
i got the letter on 23rd so i have till 3rd of july , will be waiting to see if yours come within 3-4 days

Sure got ur PM'S no issues i can ask,submit your docs i am going to that place on Tuesday as it would be a time saver for me as i had some office related work in that area on Tuesday i can update u all by Tuesday 6:00PM
My first visit ever to customs office.
I went to the customs office today and gave the documents. The office sitting there asked me the following :
he: what was the item that you have imported
me: headphones for listening to music
he: why did you import it
me: its not available in India yet.
he: where is the bill
me: (gave it to him, he calculated the value of 28$ into rupees and wrote it down).
he: how much did you pay for the shipping.
me: I paid total 28$ including shipping.
he: how did you pay for it.
me: using HDFC virtual credit card. Here is the printout of my a/c statement.
he: but how can you prove that payment mentioned in your a/c statement was used for purchasing this item only. Is the transaction no. written in the bill is also mentioned in your bank a/c details ?
me: clean bowled !!!.
I told him that what he is asking for is 100% valid but how can I help it if my bank details do not show the transaction id of my purchase. I told him that I will contact my bank and ask them to provide further details.
He handed me back the printout of my a/c statement and said it is useless for him. Then he said 'Okay, I'll see what I can do' and stapled the rest of the papers I had submitted and put them in a file.
I asked him a rough estimate of the duty that will be levied. He told me it will be 28%.
That was all.

Yeah most probably he will clear it.
The officer wanted to argue with me but I avoided confrontation by saying that I understood his point and he was 100 percent right ... blah blah.
I guess he was in a bad mood today. It went butter smooth in my case; probably because he was curious to find out the actual value and I was the first to show him an invoice.
In fact, when I showed him my other documents (Credit Card Bill, Payment Gateway Transaction confirmation & 'Brochure'), he wasn't even interested in reading them. Just gave them a cursory glance and handed everything back to me, except the invoice.
BTW, the payment gateway should have given a confirmation email with price, date, time, & order number. I had gotten a mail from RBS WorldPay giving these details. Also the date on credit card bill would match up with the date on the invoice and the date on the payment gateway confirmation.
But then, if a sarkari babu wants to argue, there's no winning :scared14:

I was a bit delayed so I reached at around 5:05 pm. I was fully expecting the guy to ask me to come tomorrow but he told me to sit down.

Those chaps definitely must be curious about what's so special in those parcels because when I was talking with him his assistant told him that there are many such parcels and they all have the same item.
Today morning I even considered taking the M4's (the ones I received a few days back) just to show the customs guy that this is the exact product I have ordered. But I forgot in the noon.
